The Machine Shop Manager is responsible for leading all machining centers for Kearfott Motion Systems Division (MSD). This includes production scheduling, production flow, production layout, and efficiency. The Machine Shop Manager is required to be a leader/mentor who guides and directs the machine shop team as necessary to improve quality and delivery. Coordinate all activities of production to ensure daily production schedules are maintained.

Machine Shop Manager
Position Description
The Machine Shop Manager is responsible for leading all machining centers for Kearfott Motion Systems Division (MSD). This includes production scheduling, production flow, production layout, and efficiency. The Machine Shop Manager is required to be a leader/mentor who guides and directs the machine shop team as necessary to improve quality and delivery. Coordinate all activities of production to ensure daily production schedules are maintained.
Essential Functions
- Oversee the machine shop production process to ensure delivery of high-quality products that meet the customers' needs.
- Establishing a machining production system that can adapt to our customers' changing demands & the appropriate production rate to reduce delivery delays.
- Identifies any bottlenecks or delays in the machine shop; ensures necessary labor, materials and other resources are available to relieve production bottlenecks and delays.
- Uses production planning and scheduling to limit material shortages.
- Ensures production machinery complies with professional and safety standards.
- Effectively communicates potential risks in a timely manner.
- Resolve employee, customer, or contractor issues.
- Represent the organization in external relations including negations.
- Act as liaison between departments or other groups to improve function, performance, or communication.
- Review applicable organizational policies and procedures ensuring accuracy and relevance, communicate said policies and procedures, updating as necessary.
- Ensure CARs (Corrective Action Reports) are submitted on time with proper resolutions.
- Create a safety-first culture.
Tasks
- Ability to direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the production or processing of goods, such as operators, or general production workers.
- Ability to effectively coordinate with supervisors to complete activities within or between departments.
- Strong organizational skills, plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
- Ability to develop a quality culture that builds quality into the process vs relying on inspections whenever possible.
- Conduct employee training in equipment operations or work and safety procedures, or assign employee training to experienced workers.
- Skilled at Interpreting specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers.
- In-depth understanding of how to appropriately leverage lean manufacturing in a machine shop environment.
- Strong process discipline for standards, budgets, production goals, and rates.
- Strong planning skills needed to coordinate resources, machines, and available space to meet customers' demands.
- Ability to motivate and retain top talent.
- Ability to effectively enforce policies, rules, and regulations.
- Understanding of Manufacturing Requirements Planning (MRP) and how to leverage MRP to plan shop floor activities.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 10 years managing a Machine Shop
- Must have previous CNC machining experience
- Low volume high mix machine shop experience required.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available.
