Supervising Attorney, Coverage Defense
Responsibilities
Staff Counsel for CURE Auto Insurance has openings resulting from our launch and
expansion into the Michigan market. We have a unique opportunity for an experienced
defense attorney with 5+ years of civil litigation experience in handling these types of
claims to serve as a leader within our staff counsel operation as a Supervising Attorney for
insurance coverage matters. The ideal candidate's experience should include the handling
and investigation of automobile insurance coverage matters. This experience should
include taking and defending depositions, negotiation proficiency, established experience
successfully trying cases, knowledge of SIU and underwriting investigations, motion
practice involving rescission and cancellation of policies, and discovery necessary to
prosecute or defend these types of claims. Extensive knowledge of PIP insurance is
required. The successful candidate will handle insurance coverage claims (voids,
rescissions, cancellations, etc.) in addition to overseeing a team of attorneys handling
these types of matters. The candidate will also counsel and assist underwriting, SIU, and
other departments in the company as needed. Experience handling BI, UM, and auto
physical damage coverage matters is also preferred. The leadership scope of this role may
expand as the operation develops and our growth continues in the market. Our Staff
Counsel will be responsible for handling files from inception through trial and appeal, if
necessary.
All candidates must possess excellent academic credentials, outstanding written and oral
advocacy skills and strong software/technological skills including competency in Word,
Outlook and Westlaw. Competitive candidates will be well-organized, detail-oriented,
and be able to independently manage a partial caseload as well as management oversight
and coaching responsibilities for their team of attorneys that can be time sensitive in

Qualifications
We are looking for a Supervising Attorney, Insurance Coverage who has the following
experience:
5+ years of experience handling first and/or third-party personal auto insurance
cases and coverage matters from inception to conclusion
Proven track record of being able to proficiently manage a full pending of case
assignments
Must be able to handle an inventory of 25+ files in addition to supervisory
responsibilities for the team
Extensive knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and
applicable substantive law, particularly relating to coverage matters including
rescission, cancellation, and order of priority
Experience presenting and cross-examining lay and expert witnesses
Experience directing support staff on clerical and administrative matters related to
lawsuit handling
Experience trying cases
Experience working in a paperless electronic environment
Strong automation/technological skills for lawsuit handling and courtroom
presentation
Additional Information:
Must have a law degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and excellent
academic credentials
Must have an active law license to practice in Michigan and a member in good
standing with the State Bar of Michigan
Office Location: Metro Detroit
Operating Model: Hybrid flexible work environment
Schedule: Full-Time; Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Compensation: $130,000-$145,000; Please provide salary requirements with your
