DEFINITION

This is a single position professional classification in the Risk Management Department, reporting to the Director of Risk Management and providing administrative support and assistance to the Risk Manager in the areas of claims management, safety and general insurance programs; performs related work as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Receives, evaluates and processes insurance billings, liability, auto and property damage claims filed against or sustained by the Authority; and
  • Reviews liability claims, accident reports, property damage reports, Workers' Compensation claims and other documents for accuracy and completeness and gathers information to verify, clarify, document or determine liability issues; and
  • Sets up files, logs information, types reports, letters, correspondence, memos as assigned; and
  • May conduct preliminary or follow-up fact-finding interviews on litigated and non-litigated cases; and
  • Assists assigned legal counsel in gathering information for interrogatories, request for admission and production of documents; and
  • Assist with responding to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and public records requests; and
  • Prepares, organizes and maintains complete and accurate claim and insurance files, logs and reports; and
  • Reviews insurance policies for accuracy and completeness and performs follow-up action to insure compliance with Authority requirements; and
  • Assist with tracking and monitoring Certificate of Insurance for all Authority vendors for accuracy and timeliness following the insurance requirements; and
  • Prepares RFP on insurance; interacts with brokers regarding quotes and process insurance billings; and
  • Assists in insurance evaluation process; and
  • Corresponds by letter with claimants, adjusters, insurance brokers, attorneys, or other individuals and agencies; or responds to inquiries by telephone; and
  • Assist with setting up Workers' Compensation claims working with the claims examiners and medical providers, monitor/track claims status and Ergonomic Assessment Request and equipment procurement; and
  • Assist departments with safety training according to CAL-OSHA compliance; and
  • Assist with the coordination of the agency's safety committee; and
  • Assists with coordinating the emergency disaster response team and monitoring emergency first aid kits and water rations for all departments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Range 34: $3240.66 - $3580.52 / Biweekly

A bachelor's degree, preferably with a major in business or public administration, or a related field.

Range 39: $3668.38 - $4058.43 / Biweekly

A bachelor's degree, with the appropriate major, and two years of applicable experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license and an insurable driving record.

Bilingual skills in Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese and/or Spanish are a plus.

Equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE OF: basic principles, practices and techniques of insurance administration, claims investigation, adjustment and workers' compensation; including claims processing, insurance record keeping, Yardi, safety standards, government codes, public liability and rules of evidence.

ABILITY TO: provide complex administrative support to the insurance and claims process; adjust or settle claims and document the process; claim investigations; prepare detailed written reports and correspondence; respond to public inquiries, and maintain community relations; conduct research, collect, organize and analyze data pertaining to insurance and claims management; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing (or with audio and visual capacities).
