DEFINITION: Assists with facilitation of the Baltimore County Public Schools' participation in the Autism Waiver Program, which provides services to children with autism in order that they may live at home or in home-like settings. Responds to inquiries regarding the autism waiver from BCPS employees, parents, the public, and service providers. Collaborates with Supervisor and Lead, Autism Waiver Coordinator regarding goals and long-term planning as it relates to autism waivers. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, preferably in special education or a related field. One year of experience providing services to children with disabilities and their families, which included experience with children with autism.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a valid class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of special education. Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to students with disabilities. Knowledge of Medicaid. Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Skill in communicating effectively. Skill in developing and maintaining working relationships with students' parents, the public, representatives of governmental agencies, co-workers, and others. Skill in keeping current with laws and regulations pertaining to students with disabilities. Skill in coordinating programs. Skill in keeping records and preparing reports.
Ability to facilitate Baltimore County Public Schools' participation in the Autism Waiver. Ability to assist families with the Autism Waiver. Ability to train case managers and staff.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The work of this class is generally performed in an office environment. Duties require substantial travel to homes, schools and facilities throughout Baltimore County.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Assists with overall coordination between waiver participants, service providers, case managers, service coordinators, and service providers. Monitors and reviews caseload of the autism waiver service coordinators.
- Serves as the liaison to Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (MDH) regarding the Autism Waiver.
- Assists families in completing and submitting waiver applications and related documents to the Maryland State Department of Education and the Maryland Department of Health.Determines the
- Provides Autism Waiver service coordination to eligible children and their families. Updates participant Plans of Care as needed and participates in meetings with the client and guardian. Collaborates with school psychologist and the Lead Autism Waiver Coordinator to facilitate the initial determination and the annual redetermination of Waiver eligibility for each student.Reviews and maintains treatment plans for each participant.
- Implements and monitors procedures for the Autism Waiver as set forth in COMAR.Completes risk assessments and community settings questionnaires as needed. Reviews and responds to Reportable Events.Provides crisis intervention support and consultation regarding Waiver services.
- Maintains accurate, accessible records to meet state and federal requirements.Monitors billing and payment procedures for service providers and agencies. Obtains logs from providers and prepares a non-utilization list for service coordinators.
- Generates billing reports monthly or upon request. Reconciles billing and research denied claims.Works with colleagues and MSDE to identify additional billing options per COMAR regulations and analyze any discrepancies between agencies.
- Assists with training case managers and Baltimore County Public Schools staff regarding the waiver application process, billing, and related program components.
- May attend meetings and serve on committees with Maryland State Department of Education and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene staff regarding the Autism Waiver. Receives updated information and disseminates it as appropriate.
- Access and use programs efficiently to assist with service coordination including but not limited to the Medical Assistance Website and the Maryland Provider Portal.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (per COMAR) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
