Job Summary

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing expertise for the design, analysis, assembly, integration, and testing of equipment and systems for the propriety design of satellite systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze mechanical components for satellite systems and subsystems.
  • Incorporate additive manufactured parts into structural design.
  • Generate 2D and 3D engineering of satellite structure, subsystems, and integrated satellite.
  • Write system design documents and interface control documents.
  • Perform structural analysis of satellite bus incorporating shock, random vibration, acceleration loads, and environmental factors to ensure flight readiness.
  • Write analysis reports documenting structural analysis performed incorporating industry standards.
  • Write test plans for full system and subsystem testing to meet structural and environmental requirements.
  • Interact with subsystem leads to mechanically integrate satellite subsystems.
  • Oversee mechanical technicians building satellite flight hardware. Support hands on build of flight and ground test hardware as necessary.
  • Complete end-to-end projects, coordinate build, testing and activation of hardware.
  • Accept/reject for conformance to standards and specifications.
  • Work closely with mission operations teams to ensure design meets needs of systems.
  • Maintain technical files and records as required.
  • Adhere to all Quality Management Systems standards and procedures.
  • Treat all team members with respect and dignity ensuring a collaborative culture is continually developed and maintained.

Required Education and Experience

  • 7+ years' experience designing, analyzing and building mechanical structures in an aerospace manufacturing environment or other relevant industry experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Experience in lieu of education may be considered.
  • Experience using SolidWorks CAD design software.
  • Experience using ANSYS Mechanical and SpaceClaim.
  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing process and design for additive manufacturing (DFAM).
  • Proficiency with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and applicable standards.
  • Project management experience in the aerospace industry desired.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.

  • Understanding of 3D composite material printing is desired.
