General Statement of Duties

Assists the Attorney for the Commonwealth in representing the people of the Commonwealth in criminal and traffic cases; does related work as required.
Essential Duties
Extensive knowledge of general and governmental law; good knowledge of State and County laws and federal laws and regulations and their relationship to the authority and functions of County and State; ability to organize, interpret and apply legal principles and knowledge to complex legal problems; ability to effectively prosecute a variety of cases; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials and the general public; good professional judgment; good legal research and writing skills.
Minimum Qualifications
For an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney I: Graduation from an accredited school of law; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. (Pay grade range is HP.32 $80,039 - $147,237- expected hiring range will be at the lower end of listed scale.)
For an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney II: Graduation from an accredited school of law, and two (2) years of experience in the practice of law; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. (Pay grade range is HP.35 $92,128 - $169,474- expected hiring range will be at the lower end of listed scale and commensurate with experience. )
For an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney III: Graduation from an accredited school of law, and five (5) years of experience in the practice of law; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. (Pay grade range is HP.37 $101,185 - $186,135- expected hiring range will be lower to mid range of listed scale and commensurate with experience.)
For a Senior Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney: Graduation from an accredited school of law, and five (6) years of experience in the practice of law; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. (Pay grade range is HP.39 $111,133 - $204,434)- expected hiring range will be lower to mid range of listed scale and commensurate with experience.)
Additional Information
Eligibility to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
This position will be filled at an Attorney I, II, III or Senior level depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate and the needs of the department at the time of hire. Salary commensurate with experience.
Prior experience with juvenile and domestic cases is preferred for one of the two open positions.
A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.

(Pay grade range is HP.37 $101,185 - $186,135- expected hiring range will be lower to mid range of listed scale and commensurate with experience.)
For a Senior Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney: Graduation from an accredited school of law, and five (6) years of experience in the practice of law; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. (Pay grade range is HP.39 $111,133 - $204,434)- expected hiring range will be lower to mid range of listed scale and commensurate with experience.)
