As a member of the Store Operations Leadership Team, the Operations Excellence Manager is responsible for overseeing the development of standardized procedures that support the commitment to industry leading service to customers throughout the organizations company owned stores.

The individual selected for this role will have the opportunity to oversee projects at an enterprise scale, collaborate with all levels within the organization, and focus on business process improvement and post-acquisition integration to help ensure the continued success of the company.

This position has a hybrid work schedule and requires at least 50% travel to Johnstone's store groups throughout the United States.

Position responsibilities:
  • Contributes to business operations strategy development that consistently delivers on Johnstone's customer value proposition across all locations.
  • Analyzes existing processes to identify best practices and business improvement opportunities. Effectively assess local needs and determine the applicability of approved local deviations from best practices.
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates innovative sales, operations, and technology development practices which support increased efficiency and effectiveness across all roles. Maintains process documentation libraries.
  • Fosters a sense of urgency, and champions required change that pushes for continuous improvement with a focus on improving efficiency, service levels, and driving down costs.
  • Develops improvement plans for assigned areas by developing and maintaining relationships with leaders, stakeholders, and industry experts (e.g., General Managers, process owners, customers).
  • Builds capabilities of employees in the responsible area, through training and coaching with a focus on local management levels.
  • Serves as the ERP process subject matter expert responsible for providing authoritative guidance and support on all ERP-related processes, including standardization of ERP-related processes at the store level.
  • Supports ERP implementation projects by serving as the ERP process advisory group leader, overseeing and managing project process-related activities.
  • Participates in regular progress meetings and toll-gate reviews, and ensures the continuous improvement process progresses within the targeted timelines.

Position requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; at least 7 years of experience with facilitating and leading work teams; at least 5 years of project management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred, but not required for this role.
  • Knowledge of wholesale distribution branch operations, including order fulfillment, inventory control, customer service, showroom merchandising, shipping, and receiving, and sales.
  • Solid understanding of business principles, financial metrics, and cost-benefit analysis for evaluating improvement initiatives.
  • Skill in process mapping and documentation. Familiarity with relevant technologies and ability to determine the best use of technology.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Knowledge of process improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or Kaizen (preferred).
  • Knowledge of the HVACR industry, contractor customer needs and product applications (preferred).
  • Project management skills: establish objectives, timelines, and deadlines; action planning to meet deadlines; evaluating current and future positions.
  • Problem-solving skills: listening to, interpreting, and meeting the needs of others; diagnosing and rectifying problems.
  • Ability to collect data, evaluate results, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to generate and utilize data pertinent to business operations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and partner across all levels of the organization: Executive Management, Store Management Employees, Company Administrative Staff, Third-party Partners, and Customers.
