The Electo-Optical/Infrared Technologies Branch, Sensors Directorate seeks to hire a mid-level S&E as the Laser Sources Research Lead (DR-3) in Dayton, OH.

This position is open to candidates currently at the DR-02 (or equivalent grade) level eligible for promotion and/or current DR-03 (or equivalent grade) level candidates for reassignment.

Position duties include but are not limited to:
  • As the Research Lead, leads the exploration of novel laser source components focused on advanced semiconductor and transition metal lasers, for Photonics, Spectrum Warfare, and EO/IR Sensing;
  • Partners with Technical Area Leads, Branch Technical Lead, other Research Leads, and other leadership to formulate innovative approaches to objectives, priorities, and plans for research efforts supporting the laser sources thrust area while integrating this area with the RY strategy;
  • Supports branch leadership in personnel oversight and makes recommendations on assignment to approved programs;
  • Maintains functional knowledge of laser technologies and R&D in the branch, and provides critical input milestones, all in order to appropriately review and communicate technical progress;
  • Reviews highly complex scientific content such as technical proposals, publications, patents, and presentations to ensure content is of high quality and meets organizational policies;
  • Determines and prioritizes research support, equipment recapitalization and infrastructure needs in coordination with lab managers, and branch leadership.
  • Mentors branch S&Es in all things laser sources, including guiding customer engagements.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at DR-02, or equivalent in other pay systems. This includes experience in research and development of laser sources as enabling components for photonics, spectrum warfare or EO/IR sensing and imaging.
  • Applicants must be able to meet the OPM Qualification Standards of the position being filled.

  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret with access to SCI and SAP security clearance, as condition of employment.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering and Technical Management; the selectee will have 60- months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained.

  • The position is eligible for Regular and Recurring telework only as the mission allows, and will require routine mission travel, regular classified engagements, and in-person meetings that cannot always be scheduled around a regular/recurring telework schedule. Employee must live within the commuting area of Wright-Patterson AFB.
  • Excellent verbal, oral, and written communication skills for technical and senior leader audiences.
  • The ability to perform TDY travel approximately 10% time.

Desired Qualifications
