Reporting to the General Manager or local Lab Manager, the role of the Operations Lead is to assume the responsibility for the day-to-day running of the lab and effectively direct a team to complete testing activities that include a range of transit and medical device validations, and for providing production guidance and support on specialized testing request support in the completion of production test. The Operations Lead is responsible for project management including all customer communication, test verification, data entry, and final test reports. She/he shall be aligned with and support the overall goals and objectives of the entire company and actively provide input and support throughout the company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned as needed)

  • In addition to duties and responsibilities outlined as a Test Engineer II, an Operations Lead's role expands on those duties to include project/group oversight of the work direction of a group of other Test Engineers and Test Technicians.
  • Accountable for budgetary expectations for the site.
  • Assume the responsibility for the day-to-day running of the lab and set the daily tasks and schedule of the engineers and technicians working with them.
  • Ensure that the engineers and technicians maintain daily productivity and efficiency by keeping them working diligently with jobs that align to their skill set and training.
  • Interpret data to recognize and identify deviations, provide client insight, and data interpretation.
  • While the Engineers and Technicians are responsible for their own data acquisition and entry, the Operations Lead is responsible for verifying all test results.
  • As the engineer working most closely with other engineers and technicians, the Operations Lead is responsible for ensuring proper GLP is always followed, as well as proper adherence to QMS and safety procedures.
  • While the Engineering Team is responsible for maintenance of facilities and equipment, the Operations Lead is responsible for communicating any issues related to facilities and equipment and may be required to assist with maintenance of and troubleshooting related issues with guidance from the Engineering Team.
  • Provide recommendations to customers on ways they can improve their packaging where there are failures during testing.
  • Monitors and provides responsive customer communication regarding testing services provided. Update customer on test status, updates, results explanation and consultation for improvements and recommendations.
  • The Operations Lead is responsible for the report compilation process from data and photo organization.
  • Lead and manage multiple projects to meet or exceed production targets, ensuring timely execution and alignment with defined expectations.
  • Manage and oversee the Shipping/Receiving and Staging environment, ensuring the efficient flow of test samples within the lab. Coordinate logistics operations to maintain timely and accurate handling, storage, and distribution of test samples.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position oversees the daily activities of the Test Engineers and Test Technicians, providing guidance and support to ensure that work is completed efficiently and to the required standards. Collaborates with the respective managers to address any performance-related issues and supports their efforts in employee development.
  • Works closely with the managers of Test Engineers and Test Technicians to ensure that work is planned, assigned, and directed effectively. Assists in providing input on performance appraisals and contributes to the development of employees' technical knowledge and career growth.
  • Collaborates with the respective managers to identify areas for improvement, supports training efforts, and helps address complaints or concerns. Takes corrective action in coordination with managers and in accordance with company policies.
  • Provides day-to-day mentorship to team members, helping them align their personal goals with the broader professional growth opportunities within the company. Supports managers in ensuring that training plans are comprehensive and compliance with training requirements is maintained.

Requirements for Eligibility
  • Bachelor's degree required or experience in laboratory setting with establish QMS or ISO.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years in a laboratory setting with experience in packaging testing. Strong knowledge and familiarity in Transit Testing and Medical Device Validation Testing.

Currently anticipated annual salary range of $100k to $115k depending on experience with company-wide bonus incentive and Employee Stock Ownership Participation.
