The Director of Project Management is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of CompuNet's Project Management Office (PMO), including management of a team of 10+ project managers - collectively responsible for the consistent and high-quality delivery of client projects in conjunction with CompuNet Engineering. The selected candidate must reside in one of CompuNet's current operating markets.

CompuNet's PMO complements our engineering-led professional services organization - effectively scaling individual engineers and project teams through proactive scheduling and logistics support, timely and professional communications, and the continuous alignment of project progress with client expectations.

CompuNet is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to play a crucial role in re-shaping, integrating, and expanding our PMO. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of project management methodologies, strong leadership and relationship building skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and stakeholder groups.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Director, Project Management will report to the Managing Director of Service Portfolio and work closely with Engineering, Sales, and Operations leadership to standardize the PMO's offerings, confirm the value of their project contributions, and bring consistency to our clients' experiences. A successful Director of Project Management will be able to:
Practice Management & Team Building
  • Lead a team of project managers - coaching them to deliver best in class project management support that aims to:
    • Add scale and continuity for our engineering resources.
    • Ensure the delivery of business outcomes and value realization to our clients.
    • Contribute to consistent service delivery and high-quality client interactions.
    • Drive on-schedule project fulfillment that is within scope and budget.
  • Manage the team of project managers and CompuNet's project portfolio, ensuring the efficient allocation of project management personnel across client projects in various regions, spanning a variety of vendor technologies and IT engineering specialties.
  • Provide direction, coaching, recognition, and performance feedback to project managers. Establish clear, measurable objectives for the team and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Hold project management team members accountable to their commitments and help remove roadblocks to their work.
  • Conduct periodic quality assurance activities that ensure adherence to published PMO methodologies and delivery standards. When deviations exist, communicate with the nonconforming project manager(s) and follow through on corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with peers in Service Development - educate project managers on delivery standards for repeatable services. Provide feedback to Service Development when a pattern of deviations from delivery standards are observed.
  • Define a clear statement of purpose and direction for CompuNet's Project Management Office - drive initiatives that improve project management processes, contribute to client satisfaction, and deliver business outcomes.
  • Implement project management methodologies and best practices tailored to CompuNet's internal culture and the needs of IT engineering engagements. 'Methodologies' may include standard operating procedures, templates, and/or toolsets that support successful execution of client projects, keep a clear eye on client experience, the delivery of discrete project outcomes.
  • Identify and implement process improvements in partnership with Service Portfolio peers, Operations, Enterprise Technology, Engineering, and Sales (collectively "stakeholders").
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with customers, CompuNet stakeholders, and other employees across the organization.
  • Oversee PMO financial performance - set annual revenue targets, track actual contributions, and forecast PMO's effects on professional services profitability. Tracking actual contributions includes weekly timesheet approvals, project pipeline and backlog, invoiced revenue totals, and coaching project managers to optimize time management and billable utilization.
  • Forecast recruiting needs, develop job descriptions, interview candidates, and onboard new project management team members.
  • Foster a culture of excellence and client-centricity, upholding CompuNet's reputation as an industry-leader and trusted partner.
Client Engagement & Project Delivery
  • Oversee project managers' contributions to the fulfillment of IT engineering projects, ensuring each project manager adheres to CompuNet standards and delivers a consistent, high-quality experience to our clients.
  • Ensure project managers are effectively communicating with internal project team members and clients, managing expectations throughout a project's lifecycle.
  • Develop standardized project tracking and reporting tools. Promote adoption of standard processes and toolsets, ensuring consistent use by all project managers in their successful delivery of projects.
  • Work with project managers to assess project risks and ensure that risk mitigation strategies are in place for high-priority projects.
  • Encourage knowledge sharing and professional development across the team, to continuously improve project delivery and the impact on customer sentiment.
  • Balance client needs with CompuNet's operational priorities, ensuring projects are profitable while meeting quality standards for delivery.
  • Serve as an escalation point for major project issues and risks - work to facilitate a resolution that is consistent with CompuNet's values and minimizes lasting damage to the client relationship.
  • Promote the consistent use of Change Order forms - assist project managers in documenting client-requested changes to a project's scope, schedule, and/or budget and support (or lead) negotiations with the client, when appropriate.
  • Develop internal and external relationships, solicit feedback and drive alignment across regions and technical specialties.
  • Collaborate with Operations to ensure external sub-contractors and technology vendors adhere to project schedules and deliver on customer commitments [when it affects CompuNet engineering resources and their contribution(s) to projects].
  • Define and track key performance indicators for the Project Management Office, measuring success of the team, effectiveness of new processes and toolsets, achievement of strategic goals, etc.
Travel Expectations
  • Able to travel up to 20%, an average of 1 trip per month.
Education & Experience
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field or 4+ years of work experience.
  • 5+ years of previous IT project management and/ or relevant consulting experience.
  • 3+ years' experience leading and developing teams focused on project management.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in project management processes and methodologies, and program lifecycles.
  • Experience driving projects with a duration of 3 to 12 months with many stakeholders, participants, and a high degree of complexity.
  • Experience working in a matrix-management model with cross-functional teams, multiple leaders, and dynamic roles.
Preferred Experience
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent project management credentials.
  • Agile project management methodology certification or training (such as CSM, PMI-ACP, AgilePM, etc.).
  • Ability to blend Traditional and Agile project management principles and practices in the right proportion to fit a project, program, or client environment.
  • 3+ years of previous business development and/or sales experience.
  • Career experience in a position with detailed time accounting and billable hours requirements.
  • Career experience in customer-facing, consultative roles with increasing responsibility.
  • Career experience managing a remote team.
