Work closely with other senior directors in PFS and the Administrator of Enterprise Revenue Cycle/Assistant Vice President of Medical Affairs
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Enterprise Revenue Cycle Department is accountable for maintaining the financial viability and success of UW Medicine. The Senior Director of Patient Financial Services is accountable for all hospital billing accounts receivables and operations for UW Medical Center (Montlake and NW campuses), and Harborview Medical Center.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the Patient Financial Services operational staff who perform quality assurance and process improvement activities
Lead ERC/FPPS/Payer Contracting Collaboration Meetings
Ensure staff meet performance standards and internalizes Patient First Goals
Achieve best practices in AR performance, to include pursuit of top quartile performance in comparison of all Epic customers in Aged Insurance and Patient AR
over 90, Clean Paid Claims, Claim Error Days, DNFB days, and Insurance Net Collection Ratio
Prepare and manage annual budget by approval of and monitoring expenditures and analyzing variances
Develop goals consistent with UW Medicine Patient First initiative
Recruit and retain talented and experienced staff, completing associated performance appraisals and managing performance effectiveness.
Integrate operational activities and participate in system initiatives/upgrades/testing with the IT Hospital Billing Applications Team to
incorporate operational and technical perspectives
Oversee the development of business and workflow requirements, future state workflows, workflow reengineering
Partner with PFAS, ERHI, RI, Senior Directors, daily, to identify strategies, resolve issues and implement process or system changes that improve
the performance of the Revenue Cycle across the system
Lead, participate and facilitate decisions for project-related or process improvement initiatives and task forces
Propose, oversee, and manage departmental budgets for all areas within scope of accountability
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) in business administration, finance healthcare, or a related field. Equivalent experience may substitute for degree requirement.
Ten (10) years of progressive healthcare revenue cycle experience including one (1) year director level leadership experience in a Patient Financial Services role, complex academic, research, healthcare or governmental setting
Understands implications of accounts receivable, in regard to information flow from the medical record coding, claim submission, patient billing and the overall relationship to cash flow
Demonstrated working knowledge of all processes surrounding Revenue Cycle Operations in a healthcare environment, including both hospital and physician settings
Understands financial management and health care reporting. Very strong analytical skills and strong working knowledge of Epic workflow, reporting including use of Slicer Dicer
Possesses demonstrated proficiency with APC/APG reimbursement, CMS rules and regulations, coding, billing, and compliance
Possesses a working knowledge of various payment and coding systems, particularly the Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS), Medicaid APG Grouper, HCPCS and CPT-4 coding schemas
Possesses a working knowledge of the UB-04, MA claim form, and the Claim Form-1500
Experience with the EPIC Hospital Billing System
Excellent project management, problem solving and analytical skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbally and in writing, with employees, medical staff, board members and external parties
