The Tax Equalization Director directs and oversees the Williams County and City of Williston valuation and assessment functions.

Supplemental Information
Compensation: Starting pay ranges from $37.502 to $40.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. Williams County provides generous benefits to full-time regular employees: paid sick and vacation leave, a fully paid health/dental/vision benefit plan for employees and dependents, term life insurance of $25,000, 100% contribution toward retirement benefits through the ND Public Employees Retirement System, and 12 paid holidays each year.

Employees who are at least 18 years of age and are working in a qualified position an average of 20 hours per week for five or more months of the year are required to participate in the North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System (ND PERS) Retirement Plan. Membership will become effective immediately upon employment.

- Manages department staff, including hiring, training, and performance management
- Assigns, directs, and supervises staff; acts as a resource providing knowledge and technical assistance as needed
- Ensures compliance with both internal and external policies, procedures, and regulations governing valuation and equalization activities
- Reviews, interprets, and implements tax legislation directives as they pertain to valuation and equalization functions
- Prepares and delivers presentations at a variety of meetings, including City and County Commissions, Township Boards, and other relevant committees
- Provides information to the community regarding property exemptions and departmental programs
- Authorizes property exemptions in accordance with the mandated qualifications criteria
- Receives, investigates, and resolves taxpayer complaints
- Reviews County and City sales ratio data for accuracy
- Develops, administers, and monitors the department budget
- Maintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.
Typical Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three (3) years' experience as a Tax Assessor, including two (2) years of supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Must possess and maintain Class I Assessor Certification
- Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver's License, or equivalent
- Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening

- Overnight travel required for training
- Ability to climb stairs and/or ladders
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Must be able to attend occasional evening and early morning meetings
