Job Description:
- PURPOSE OF JOB : To perform, under the responsibility and supervision of the Urgent Care Physician on duty, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks, for patients of all ages, allowing the Urgent Care Physician to extend his/her services.
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Take a medical history and perform a thorough medical exam.
- Order diagnostic tests as necessary..
- Prescribe treatment, refer appropriately for follow up care, and educate the patient on self-care at home.
- In conjunction with the Urgent Care Physician, recognize more serious medical conditions, and direct the patient to the Emergency Department for care.
- Provide, as much as possible, a pleasant and efficient urgent care experience for the patient.
- Assists the physician in the care and work-up of patients.
- Performs and records History and Physical Examination.
- Order and interpret appropriate laboratory and x-ray studies as per protocol or after consultation with the supervisory/attending physician.
- Refer to specialty follow up as appropriate, after consultation with the Urgent Care Physician.
- Summarizes appropriate data during the Urgent Care visit.
- Completes informative discussion with patient and family regarding patient care and treatment.
- Demonstrates clinical judgment, ability to make decisions.
- Demonstrates the ability to efficiently move patients through the urgent care visit.
- Provides superior patient care which is technically excellent, respectful, compassionate and friendly.
- Participates in care of patients, being especially knowledgeable in the recognition of change in the patient's condition.
- Informs the physician of all changes in the patient's condition.
- Assess the patient's treatment course, and transcribe/implement indicated therapy.
- Communicates patient progress to appropriate consultants as needed.
- Collects data and writes pertinent progress notes in the electronic medical record.
- Communicates with ancillary and nursing staff to gather information and discuss patient care.
- Communicates appropriate information to family members.
- Performs minor procedures
- Performs incision and drainage of abscesses.
- Performs wound repair of simple to moderate wounds using appropriate methods, to include adhesive strips, wound adhesive, sutures and staples, as required.
- Performs removal of uncomplicated foreign bodies of the skin, ears or nose.
- Performs simple splinting of extremity fractures.
