Fincantieri Marinette Marine, a Fincantieri Marine Group Company, is a progressive shipyard specializing in building ships for the United States Navy. We currently have an opportunity for an Engineer II at our Marinette, Wisconsin location.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Engineer II's purpose is to solve technical problems, develop applicable documentation, and supervise all assigned resources to support the assigned project. The Engineer II assists the Senior Engineers, Engineering Supervisors and Project Engineers in determining the technical requirements of the project, defining resource requirements to achieve schedule and budget commitments, and solving technical issues as they arise within the field of competence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Demonstrates ability to work independently in solve technical problems.
  • Capable to plan, estimate, schedule and monitor assigned work and the work of assigned resources
  • Track and report progress to budget and schedule commitments
  • Capable to facilitate communications of issues and solutions throughout FMM, subcontract, or customers.
  • Capable to prepare, check and issue professional quality deliverables and mentor team members on improving performance
  • Capable of interpreting contract requirements, applying to functional assignments, and able to mentor team members in their understanding
  • Demonstrates ability to identify and develop contract change documents to support the project needs. Capable to mentor fellow team members.
  • Abide by and enforce all organizational policies and procedures. Mentor fellow team members in development, explanation, and guidance of policies and procedures.
  • Capable to lead or participate in product improvement projects and working groups
  • Demonstrates ability to track and monitor subcontract activities.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively mentor assigned resources during onboarding or skill development


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Engineer II also demonstrates leadership skills that align with the mission, vision, and values of the Company. The Engineer II may directly mentor or supervise 2 to 5 employees. Mentoring and supervisory responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with the Company's policies, procedures, and applicable laws. An Engineer II may be included with interviewing potential new team members and training employees. With supervising, this may include planning, assigning, and directing work of assigned individuals, participating in the appraising performance, addressing complaints with development opportunities, and resolving problems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee's workspace is in a clean and comfortable climate-controlled setting with little to no exposure to the moving equipment, elements, extreme conditions, or risk of injury. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. When entering the shipyard, the work environment is not climate-controlled and there is exposure to moving equipment, etc.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Security level of Secret is Required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor Degree in Technical field and at least 10-15 years of supervisory experience in Marine Manufacturing role.
  • Held senior leadership position in large manufacturing company
  • Proficient in all areas of QA including, but not limited to, mechanical systems, electrical systems, auxiliary systems, welding qualifications, NDT testing requirements, marine corrosion, and paint applications.
  • Direct experience in supervising and managing a union workforce. Minimum of 5 years' experience in managing craft new construction/repair QC/QA programs.
  • Experienced with ISO Quality Systems, Safety and Environmental certifications, NAVSEA, ABS, USCG, and commercial standards.
  • Preferred experience managing waterfront production oversight teams at one or more Navy shipyards.
  • Experience in interacting with senior military (flag/O-6) and civilian (SES, GS-15) personnel.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Department of Defense (DoD) contracts and contract analysis and has knowledge of DoD contracting processes
  • Have a working knowledge of Six-Sigma and Lean methods for problem resolution in a cost effective manner.
