JOB SUMMARY
Longy School of Music seeks an entrepreneurial Facilities Manager to oversee all aspects of the maintenance, repair, improvement and efficient operation of Longy's buildings, grounds, and equipment. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a self-starter to ensure the beauty, cleanliness, and safety of an educational campus, allowing the members of the Longy community to learn, teach, and perform in world-class historic buildings.
The Facilities Manager is a key member of the operations team, developing strategies and planning for major renovation or construction projects, while managing the day-to-day building needs of a graduate music conservatory in the heart of Cambridge and Harvard Square. This person works closely with all Longy staff, faculty, and students, and represents the school to outside constituencies including Cambridge neighbors, Cambridge Historical Commission, performance partners, renters, vendors, and campus visitors.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Regularly inspect facilities and equipment to determine extent of service and equipment required. Recommend, justify, and coordinate projects as needed.
- Ensure the safety of Longy's buildings and grounds, correcting hazardous conditions.
- Ensure daily that Longy's buildings and grounds are clean and well-maintained.
- Supervise the front desk receptionists to ensure a welcoming and informative experience for students, faculty, staff, and guests alike.
- Supervise on-campus student employees (OCE's) who work at the front desk on evenings and weekends.
- Collaborate with the Concert Hall team, ensuring successful concert productions and facilities rentals.
- Oversee the Facilities Strategic Plan: advise on and develop plans for annual and long-term maintenance and repair of the school's buildings and grounds.
- Prepare and manage budgets for operating and capital needs related to buildings, grounds, and equipment, including overseeing purchase orders and invoices, and other requests for expenditures.
- Assist department chairs as needed with their maintenance, repair, and inventory plans for musical instruments, especially keyboard instruments.
- Assess and maintain positive relationships with vendors and other professionals including: building contractors, locksmith, plumber, HVAC, electrician, piano tuners and various city inspectors.
- Serve as staff liaison to the Board of Governors Campus Planning Committee, preparing meeting agendas, taking minutes, and circulating materials.
- Collaborate with Manager of Information Systems on maintaining and supporting the use of A/V classroom equipment.
- Act as Chief Security Officer for Longy's campus, interfacing with local police and Director of Security at Bard College, and maintaining Clery records.
- Inform the Longy community about potential weather and life safety emergencies.
- Ensure campus meets safety protocols and collaborates with colleagues to set health and safety policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- 5 years of facilities management experience. Experience with historical properties, school campuses, and construction project management is desirable.
- Strong supervisory skills and experience.
- Strong hands-on administrative skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively with a team of other administrators and be oriented to supporting the work of the school's faculty members and students.
- Interest in and the ability to work with a diverse population and a wide range of personalities.
- Experience in balancing hands-on, day-to-day tasks with longer term work.
- Strong computer skills. The school uses Microsoft software.
- Flexibility to be accessible on weekends and evenings.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
