Position:

Natick Soldier Research Development & Engineering Center (NSRDEC) technical expert to the government in textile chemistry/technology with responsibilities to prepare, update, and coordinate fabric and clothing specification documents. This included validation, modification, and establishing new technical requirements for clothing and equipment items.

Infantry Combat Equipment Team Background:

The Textile Specialist provides engineering and technical expertise in the development, acquisition, and sustainment of individual armor, organizational clothing (textile), mountaineering and load bearing equipment to increase the survivability of our Warfighters. They perform technical market surveys and investigations; develop System Engineering Plans; develop allocated baselines; develop specifications; conduct specification review and analysis; develop and review Interface Control Documents; develop documentation and architectures; perform system design; conduct technical analysis of components and systems; determine program risk; manage quality control; perform system integration; perform configuration management; perform safety certification; and test and assess performance. Engineering support could be required in specific disciplines including textile, reliability, producibility and quality management.

Duties-Responsibilities:
  • Work with the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Soldier Center within the Soldier Protection Directorate, Protection Equipment Division, Infantry Combat Equipment Team.
  • Collaborate with a staff of multi-disciplined engineers, textile technologist, physical scientists and acquisition management professionals with technical, logistical and military backgrounds.
  • Responsible for writing and revising military specifications, purchase descriptions, commercial item descriptions. The specifications become legal documents associated with contracts acquiring military clothing and individual equipment and require a high level of precision.
  • Provide configuration management support for controlled documents and engineering support activities.
  • Develops acquisition objectives and milestones to obtain the contracted services within the timeframe demanded for the particular project.
  • Advises on all phases of negotiation with the contract specialist/contracting officer for contract modifications, change orders, supplemental agreements, and delivery order processes including all phases of contract administration.
  • Attend meetings with Government and contractor personnel and furnishes recommended solutions to contractual problems.
  • Perform in-depth research of procedures, policy, and regulations to provide technical advice to management and project managers.
  • Monitor the procurement process from pre-award to final delivery requirements. Keeps abreast of procurement status and takes necessary actions to correct problems.


Specialized Experience:

Engineering Analyses for a Product Manager and conducting liaison with centers like:

Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCoE), Fires Center of Excellence (FCoE), Army Research Development and Engineering Centers (RDECs), other services and program offices, and other Laboratories/Research and Development (R&D) Centers and Universities..
