About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Operations Engineering, the Operations Engineer will provide technical support and guidance for the safe and efficient operation of company facilities. The successful candidate will support the Operations Engineering mandate to provide and maintain fit for service facilities to field operations through urgent response to repair, optimization and troubleshooting projects.

This position is based out of the Grande Prairie office, with travel to field locations as required.

The Operations Engineering team has a high impact on safe operations and production revenue through quick reaction, rigorous prioritization and strict application of the principles of process safety.

Key Responsibilities Include:
Management of Change Projects (MOCs)
Replacement in Kind Projects (RIKs)
Brownfield Project Management
Process Hazard Assessment and HAZOP Study Revalidations
Operations Support

Job functions will involve:
  • Review, develop, plan, execute and close-out small project (MoC) requests in collaboration with field-based Operations & Maintenance staff and other stakeholders as required
  • Assist with the administration of the Management of Change program including project status updates, prioritization and resource allocation.
  • Act as Project Manager for small projects, including responsibility for project scope, cost, quality and schedule


  • Develop all required project-related deliverables (ex. DBM, AFE, PEP, etc) as required
  • Develop and authenticate all necessary technical engineering deliverables (ex. P&ID's, isometric drawings, etc) for small projects - involving additional subject matter experts as required
  • Coordinate, participate and facilitate facility and system design reviews and risk assessments (PHA's). Participate in HAZOP reviews for operating facilities and assume ownership and responsibility for HAZOP recommendations and close-out
  • Identify and address safety-related concerns or non-conformances at existing facilities


Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • University degree in Engineering with minimum 4 years related experience
  • APEGA registration as an E.I.T or P.Eng is required. Consideration will be given to experienced Petroleum Technologists seeking registration with APEGA as a Professional Licensee
  • Currently residing in the Grande Prairie, Alberta area or must be willing to relocate
  • Experience in project management and execution best practices. PMP registration is considered an asset
  • Experience in facility design and debottlenecking
  • Experience in design and operation processes for field production facilities. Experience in Montney and Duvernay resource plays is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with all current codes (CSA, ASME, API, etc.) and regulations (ABSA, AER, OH&S, etc.)
  • Knowledge and interpretation of piping and construction specifications
  • Knowledge and experience in Process Safety and Operational Integrity management systems
  • Proficient in P&ID interpretation and as-building
  • General knowledge of Electrical Design and Instrumentation is an asset
  • Ability to interface effectively with field operations and maintenance staff
