What is Lifebanc?

Lifebanc, is the federally designated organ, eye and tissue recovery organization that serves 20 counties in Northeast Ohio. Put simply, we facilitate and coordinate organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation in our community and educate the public on the importance of our mission. Position Description:

The Manager of Family Services supports the mission, goals, and strategic plan by overseeing cross department collaboration and external collaboration with the donor hospitals in the development and implementation of educational and quality programs related to donation.

Provides direction, education and mentoring to the Family Services team to facilitate efficiency and effectiveness in the donation process while encouraging the professional development and achievement of personal and departmental goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for providing resources, leadership and direction to the Family Services team including but not limited to, primary supervision, monitoring of staff activities, performance review, training, and scheduling. Manages relevant staff documentation and day-to-day operational activities (timesheets, expense reports, PTO requests and performance evaluations).
  • Implements, updates, and maintains departmental policies and procedures, including collaboration of training program/modules using established format as a template, in-depth analysis and ongoing review of performance indicators, and timely development of initiatives designed to continually improve department performance.
  • Attends and participates in planning meetings to establish operational and strategic goals.
  • Works with the Family services team to increase authorization rates of organ, eye and tissue donation by offering meaningful interactions and interventions to the living next of kin of potential donors.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with donor hospitals and staff.
  • Works to promote and collaborate with other departments to successfully promote Lifebanc goals.


  • Works with Hospital Development to provide formal and informal in-service educational programs with hospital personnel to increase donor awareness, facilitate a smooth organ and tissue donation process, and to decrease the number of hospital related issues.
  • Works with on-call team to determine when it is best to approach and offer the opportunity of organ, eye and tissue donation.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of information related to patients, donor families and other agencies.
  • Regularly audits Donor compliance information in compliance with CMS, AATB, AOPO standards and Lifebanc policies.
  • Ensures coverage and support for donor families/next of kin that remain on-site at the hospital during the authorized donor case.


  • Participates in process improvement initiatives, follows up with hospital services department, on a timely basis, on occurrences impacting the donation process in the respective donor hospitals.
  • Participates in the new staff orientation, quarterly and annual competency completion.
  • Provides support/training to ensure department and individual goals are achieved.
  • Provides on-going coaching to the Lifebanc team to optimize donation process from referral to recovery.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills, acts as a mentor and role model for fellow staff members and facilitates a teambuilding atmosphere.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare related fields and/or social work counseling from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Minimum 5 -7 years' work experience in a professional healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of regulations related to organ donation (Joint Commissions, CMS, AATB, AOPO) a plus. Knowledge of organ, tissue and eye donation process preferred.
  • Ability to initiate interpersonal interactions with hospital staff and develop ongoing positive relationships.
  • Ability to assess situations and people and respond in a professional manner.
  • Skilled in presenting information to various audiences in an engaging and professional manner.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Knowledge of hospital/facility infrastructure.
