Position Summary:

The Senior Director of Data and Strategy will work closely with multiple departments to analyze data, extract meaningful insights, and contribute to our organization's mission to make these data findings and insights accessible to the public through various methods. The Senior Director of Data and Strategy reports to the VP of Shelter Operations and Strategy and will work closely with various departments. They will also work closely with a diverse group of stakeholders, external partners, contractors, and vendors to execute key organization objectives as outlined in the strategic plan. The role is pivotal in ensuring the consistent achievement of NHS's goals, particularly increasing the save rate through cutting-edge animal welfare approaches and community engagement. They will bring a high level of expertise in project management, customer service, and best practice development. They will oversee the Director of Customer Experience.

Essential Job Functions
  • Collaborate with senior leadership (CEO, Executive VP, and VP of Shelter Operations and Strategy) to understand data analysis needs and objectives.
  • Supervise the Director of Customer Experience, ensuring efficient operation of the Adoptions and Customer Support departments.
  • Oversee Animal Outfitters retail store's operations to support shelter programs and increase revenue.
  • Ensure accurate data collection, analysis, and reporting across all shelter functions.
  • Utilize data insights to inform decision-making, improve program outcomes and track effectiveness.
  • Collect, clean, and preprocess data from various sources to prepare it for analysis and storage.
  • Analyze large data sets efficiently, liaise with key stakeholders, and provide potential and proactive solutions to mission-based business priorities.
  • Conduct statistical analysis and data mining to identify trends, patterns, and correlations based on target objectives.
  • Bring automation and efficiency to crafting and updating data to address emerging business needs.
  • Analyze data for the influence of missing information, outliers, and confounding and extraneous variables.
  • Develop and implement data visualization techniques to communicate findings effectively.
  • Assist in the interpretation of data analysis results and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Contribute to the creation of reports, presentations, and other materials to disseminate findings internally and externally.
  • Stay updated on relevant data analysis tools, techniques, and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain coding for websites and programs to support data collection and reporting.
  • Support the creation of reports and storytelling with data to effectively communicate insights to various audiences.
  • Utilize data to craft compelling narratives that support NHS's mission and objectives.
  • Project Manage Data Education Initiatives:
    • Develop best practices for data entry in various software systems for consistent animal-level data reporting.
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders on developing, communicating, and implementing best practices.
    • Identify and implement solutions to challenges.
  • Support the team with animal-level data analysis for industry insights and areas that need to be addressed through best practices, software fixes, data mapping, etc.
    • Triage and troubleshoot issues, assigning when necessary.
    • Identify consistently reported issues that need to be addressed by staff on Chameleon.


Qualifications
  • High School Diploma with at least 5 years of relevant experience. Bachelor's degree in computer science, business or related field preferred.
  • Problem-solving, process improvement, automation development, and project management skills.
  • Providing prompt and professional customer service to shelters, rescues, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong writing skills, with experience in instructional or technical writing preferred.
  • Working as a self-starter, leading teams, and working within a team.
  • Working in shelter software, SAC and SPDA preferred.
  • Leading and motivating teams, with specific experience in volunteer committees preferred.
  • Working in shelter operations, specifically overseeing intake and outcome teams preferred.
  • Communicating user issues and needs to technical teams preferred.
  • Coding for websites and programs, with experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other relevant programming languages.
  • Creating compelling narratives and storytelling with data to effectively communicate insights and support NHS's mission.
  • Proficient knowledge of animal shelter software.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in qualitative/quantitative analysis and data manipulation.
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, Python, Tableau, and/or SQL (Optional).
  • Familiarity with data visualization techniques and tools like Tableau, PowerBI, or others (Optional).
  • Proficient in coding languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other relevant programming languages for website and program development.
  • Proficient communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for social impact and a commitment to NHS' mission.
