Interim Assistant Director of Clinical Supports

Up to a year position with opportunity to apply for permanent position)

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: In alignment with the district's equity-centered strategic plan and the Social Work Code of Ethics, and under general supervision of the Senior Executive Director of Strategy, the Director of Clinical Supports will provide supervision and direction to members of our district-wide team of mental health providers in its efforts to provide services at the universal/whole school (Tier I), targeted/small group (Tier II) and intensive/individual (Tier III) levels to support the social and emotional wellness and academic success of ALL students. Strong candidates should embody equity-oriented leadership, have knowledge and experience integrating trauma-informed/healing-centered approaches within a positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) framework, supporting the implementation of social emotional learning (SEL) curricula (e.g., Second Step at the primary level), use of evidence-based clinical/counseling interventions for individuals and small groups, and experience as an administrator.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Vision and Coordination
    • In collaboration with mental health providers, administrators, district programing clinical coach, and the Senior Executive Director of Strategy, establishes a clear and compelling equity-oriented vision for the department.
    • Leads the district mapping of school-based and community mental and behavioral supports and resources as PPS moves to an integrated systems framework model.
    • Oversees strategic community partnerships related to mental health.
    • Partners with members of other departments (e.g., Family and Community Specialists, Network Teams, School Management) to maximize effective service delivery.
    • Sets clear, measurable goals that are aligned to the vision and strategy.
  • Leadership and Supervision
    • In collaboration with building/program administrators, builds a diverse, talented team by hiring, coaching and retaining clinical department members.
    • Provides clinical supervision to mental health providers requiring hours for licensure as determined by Asst Dir and their supervisor.
    • Consults and coordinates with department members to ensure that child welfare and safety referrals and follow-up case-management are provided.
    • Supports department members by liaising between school, family and community resources; serves as a source of information regarding community resources (e.g., food, housing, clothing, support services).
    • Supports department members in developing a system by which to maintain appropriate documentation and written reports and communications.
    • Supports building administrators in conducting evaluations of mental health clinicians using the mental health practitioner-adapted Danielson framework.
  • Professional Learning
    • Coordinates monthly business meetings with mental health providers and counselors.
    • Coordinates professional development opportunities for mental health practitioners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong equity orientation and an openness to personal reflection on deepening awareness of personal bias and being culturally humble. Demonstrated conviction around having high expectations for all students. Experience with culturally responsive pedagogy.
  • Great relationship builder. Demonstrated ability to build trust with teachers, administrators and mental health providers. Track record of working collaboratively with staff at all levels to build consensus while also delivering exceptional results.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in school-based social work, social emotional learning, and behavioral interventions (e.g., positive behavioral interventions and supports). Working knowledge of the pertinent standards and regulations in Maine programs, low-income and culturally diverse populations, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills (e.g., threat assessment, mental health diagnostic assessments, mental status etc.) and crisis planning.
  • Effective team leadership skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, proficient computer skills, and time-management.
  • Experience and skill providing clinical supervision.
  • Skilled designer and facilitator of professional development.
  • Systems-thinker. Capacity to hold the big picture while managing the small details that ensure strong implementation.
  • Expertise in data-based inquiry to ensure improvement in professional practice and experience using data to drive critical conversations and continuous improvement among peer and non-peer colleagues and groups.
  • Skilled project manager, ability to effectively achieve multiple goals and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Masters degree in social work from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in delivery of clinical services to students and families.
  • Experience in administration of similar programs/departments in school or related environments.
  • Additional combinations of applicable education, training, and experience.
  • A valid license issued by the Maine State Board of Social Work Examiners.
  • Has up-to-date CHRC with the Maine State Department of Education
  • Meets all state requirements to provide clinical supervision to mental health practitioners.
