The Role

This position is primarily accountable for responsible file management throughout the life of a loan (including underwriting as required), requiring a close relationship with Investors, Borrowers and other key consultants. The role will also involve oversight of the underwriting group and work closely regional funding team.

Key areas of responsibility include:

1) Fostering and expanding Central West's investor lending relationships with an eventual focus on bringing these relationships to a national level.

2) Ensuring excellent credit/underwriting quality by identifying and mitigating credit risk, ensuring pricing is commensurate with risk and that loan submissions & commitment letters are complete and accurate in compliance with MCAP's standard underwriting policies.

3) Providing responsible management of the portfolio through review & sign-off of advances, review & execution of commitment letters and other key documents, as well as overseeing all reporting requirements to Investors.

4) Assist Investment Management with the negotiation and finalization of inter-lender / servicing agreements as well as problem loans and investor/Borrower challenges.

Consistent communication between investors and the regional production teams will be a key part of the role, including deal presentation, managing investor responses and providing portfolio / market updates. The role will also require an excellent understanding of the investor's appetite and lending criteria.

Funding Capacity Growth
  • Establish, via executed servicing/interlender agreements, accretive investors including Credit Unions and other target capital sources.
  • Arrange and participate in MCAP presentations with targeted capital sources.
  • Manage ongoing and established relationships between targeted capital sources and MCAP with an emphasis on expanding the relationships nationally (subject to regulatory constraints)


Regional Underwriting & Credit Oversight
  • Assess, train and work with Analysts and Advisors to ensure there is a solid understanding of the deals and risks are identified and soundly mitigated.
  • Review all Term Sheets & Loan Submissions prepared by the regional branch to ensure that the credit risk is adequately identified, assessed and mitigated and that pricing is commensurate with risk. The review shall also ensure that the underwriting is complete & accurate.
  • Verify compliance with the various strategic investors' loan eligibility and portfolio criteria.
  • While the position is not responsible for all presentations & interaction with third party investors, the position will review all Term Sheets & Financing Requests prior to submission to Third Party lending investors to ensure quality and completeness of the underwriting.
  • Review and execute Commitment, Renewal and Amendment Letters, as well as legal documentation. Ensure that the documentation is prepared in accordance with the approved loan submission and investor approval minutes.
  • Responsible for loan syndications, including review of all servicing agreements, inter-lender agreements and other documentation relating to the syndication.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and ensuring the information is reported in a clear and concise format, allowing for ease of analysis. Included in this function would be an examination of financial statements, development and construction budgets, cash flow projections, supply & demand analysis and market/industry reports.
  • Evaluate any amendments or changes requested by Borrowers in the assigned portfolio by addressing the strengths & weaknesses of the proposed amendments/changes and making a recommendation to the Investor.
  • Assist in establishing, keeping up to date and verifying compliance of credit policies and procedures for the Development Finance Group. Update and revise credit policies of the Policy and Procedures manual as needed.
  • Oversee the preparation of required monthly reports (i.e. matured loans, arrears and non-performing loans) and the monthly cash flow reporting for strategic investors (as required).
  • Oversee completion and submission of the Quarterly Loan Status Report to strategic investors, including review of the LSR on a conference call (as required).


Loan Funding & Portfolio Management
  • Work closely with the Manager of Funding and the regional Funding team to ensure that loans are performing in accordance with the loan approval and Investor expectations. The position is responsible for reviewing first advances, including review of conditions precedent to funding, and reviewing monthly progress draws.
  • Make well-reasoned and logical business decisions in determining the materiality of variances. Recommendations on material variances are to be presented to the investor for approval.
  • Inspect sites on a regular basis to ensure progress is in accordance with investor expectations and approvals.
  • Oversee branch responsibilities with respect to workout files. The position will be the primary point of contact for any inquiries that require the involvement of the branch.
  • National Investor Management:
  • Work closely with the national investment management team as it relates to MCAP capital oversight including, inter-lender and servicing agreements, cash flow projections, capacity, loan sales, default management and overall portfolio maintenance
  • To travel and meet strategic investors from time to time to present annual forecasts, review performance and address concerns.
  • Maintain knowledge of strategic investor requirements and desired product to ensure the branch is targeting product that fits strategic investor programs.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of the branch's portfolio with the ability to accurately respond to investor inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the preparation of annual market reports and quarterly market up-date reports for the regional market, with the ability to provide regular updates to strategic investor clients.


Lead and Manage Staff
  • Champion the company's Vision, Mission and Values as set out in the Strategic Plan both internally and externally within the industry.
  • Recruit and develop the right people that believe in and reflect in their behaviour MCAP's Values and culture.
  • Establish, monitor and communicate performance standards to direct reports reinforcing individual results, work quality, continuous improvement, teamwork and achievement of MCAP's objectives.
  • Educate, coach and counsel staff to ensure they are empowered to effectively handle their roles in a confident and professional manner.
  • Establish and maintain an effective system of communication throughout the business unit.
  • Ensure a continuous improvement culture is established and encouraged.
  • Attend quarterly planning sessions as needed

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience.

Personal Automobile/Driver's License

The employee will be required to use their personal automobile for regular business purposes (3 or more days per week in a normal five-day work week). MCAP will provide company paid parking at the MCAP office to which the employee regularly reports. Under CRA regulations, the company paid parking will be considered non-taxable for this purpose.

Note: Travel between work and home is notconsidered travel for business purposes.
