SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Sr. Director R&D Contract Services the Associate Director, Skin Biology a key member of team providing strong, hands-on scientific leadership, independently conduct laboratory experiments, critically analyze data and determining the next steps to be taken.
Success in this role will be determined by the ability to work within an entrepreneurial, scientifically oriented organization through exemplary servant leadership.
This position will ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies, State Departments of Health, Good Documentation Practices (GDP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Clinical Practices (GCP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), EMEA and FDA Guidelines, general State and Country Regulations such as but not limited to (CLIA, CAP, USP, ISO 9001, USDA regulations, HTA license, DEA and State Controlled Substance programs) where site appropriate.

The employee is occasionally required to use equipment with moving mechanical parts, with risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, at times, the noise level can be louder and hearing protection may be required. The employee may work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Lead and oversee skin biology research projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
- Develop and implement research strategies to advance our understanding of skin biology and its applications.
- Develop SOP's, refine culture techniques, set specific measurable milestones and monitor progress against these goals.
- Troubleshoot experimental problems and provide technical support to internal scientific staff
- Conceive of and develop new research areas/products/contract services.
- Work with the scientific staff to share knowledge and experience to improve existing procedures and products.
- Occasionally working with our procurement partners as well as working with the business development team in presentations to pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and personal care companies.
- Human primary cell culture and cryopreservation, cell based assay development, high throughput cell-based screening, protein and molecular assays, analysis of experimental protocols and techniques.
- Performing contract research including conducting research, data analysis, writing reports and interacting with service customers to assist in designing experiments and projects.
- Excellent documentation and record keeping.
- Provide technical support to customers as needed.
- Provide technical training to other scientific team members
- Stay current with the latest scientific advancements in skin biology and related fields, and integrate new knowledge into research strategies

Education and/or Experience
- Master's Degree in life sciences or related field with a minimum of 1-year industrial experience in cell culture or bachelor's degree plus 5-years' experience.
- Experience working within an ISO, GMP, or GLP environment preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Must have the ability to independently to conduct laboratory experiments and generate data.
- Must have experience performing ELISA, RT-PCR, Western blotting, PCR, nucleic acid electrophoresis, isolation and quantification of RNA and DNA, and other laboratory techniques
- Literate and proficient in the use of personal computers and peripheral equipment. Proficient in software programs such as word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics with the ability to learn new software programs.
- Experience with sterile technique and safe handling of dry ice and liquid nitrogen.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience mentoring and developing scientific talent.
- Excellent understanding of skin biology, including skin structure, function, and disease mechanisms.
- Proficiency in experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams and driving product development initiatives.
- Knowledge of regulatory and ethical guidelines related to skin biology research.
