Job Summary:

The Product Development Program Manager is responsible for managing the development of new and existing projects through all phases of the Product Development process from Concept Development to Pilot Production and Market Introduction. This is a customer facing role. The Program Manager will collaborate with the Lead Product Development Engineer to form a core team to meet and exceed all customer and stakeholder expectations.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage project priorities for the SMC project team to support the development efforts of new and existing projects
  • Develop and maintain project timelines and Bills of Material (BOM) that support our quoted lead-times to incorporate the customer requirements for research and discovery, ideation, concept development, product engineering, validation, tool development, manufacturing systems readiness, Pilot Production and transfer to production systems at other SMC facilities
  • As the primary project contact with the customer, this role will gather product requirements from the customer as defined by internal processes. These requirements will be documented and presented to the Lead Engineer and the rest of the product development team for technical alignment.
  • Support the project efforts of the Lead Engineer, as required
  • Manage project to ensure that all customer project deliverables for timing, quality and project accounting are met. Practice good project management techniques with internal and cross-functional teams; meeting minutes, action items, strong communication & team building skills, priority management, seeking stakeholder feedback in a timely manner, as required
  • Responsible for procurement of all project CapEx & OpEx, including components, assemblies and equipment
  • Responsible for project CBOM's, quotes, PO's and procurement timelines
  • Develop and gather all the necessary documentation during all phases of the project.
  • Develop the Design History File (DHF) and ensure that internal processes and procedures are satisfied before moving to the next phase of project
  • Create and support a culture of collaboration, cooperation and communication. Willingness to mentor and to be mentored
  • Provide internal support for the project and resolve any new issues that develop
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment by following all company safety policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering; BSME preferred
  • A minimum of seven years' experience in Product Development with an emphasis on injection molded plastic product design
  • Professional and well-organized with excellent time management skills
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to handle sensitive, confidential and conflicting situations
  • Strong technical and proposal writing skills. Must have strong presentation skills
  • Ability to exercise strong judgment in analyzing, evaluating and solving problems
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD software

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
  • Solidworks experience is preferred

ADA Requirements:
  • Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for frequent operation of a computer
  • Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about occasionally
  • Lift, move or otherwise transfer items up to 30 lbs. occasionally
  • Occasional exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards
  • Travel by air or car occasionally
