Position Summary

We are seeking a Purchasing/Inventory Control manager to oversee our organization's procurement activities. The responsibilities include developing purchasing strategies, maintaining positive relationships with suppliers, coordinating with internal teams regarding their supply needs, overseeing the purchasing team in their daily activities, and oversee the inventory levels.

To be successful in this role, you should be able to manage and optimize purchasing and inventory activities and processes. This manager should have excellent leadership abilities and be able to negotiate the best possible deals with suppliers.

Position Responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee the work of Purchasing Associates, Senior Buyer.
  • Review and process purchase orders created from approved requisitions, Inventory demand, and open direct sales orders
  • Hire, train, and coach new staff in purchasing
  • Lead organizational collaboration in Item master data compliance
  • Collaborate and develop the organization's procurement rules and regulations with the Purchasing and Logistics Director
  • Establish guidelines for how often the organization gets price quotes for items, the number of bids to accept, and which vendors to consider
  • Buy goods and services for the organization
  • Work directly with the Contracts department on Purchases that involve contracts
  • Evaluate quality, price, reliability, and availability of goods and services
  • Analyze and recommend inventory control practices and inventory systems, policies, procedures, plans and programs focused on improving managing inventory needs and inventory investments in a cost effective and reliable manner through working closely with Inventory, Warehousing/Receiving teams
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and department resources to identify the most reliable and cost effective suppliers to provide JAARS with the inventory needed to operate; maintaining good working relationships with suppliers by communicating and dealing with concerns or problems, such as a delay in an order being processed
  • Ensure the correct amount of inventory required to meet internal business needs and to avoid overstocking items, tying up cash, and/or creating storage issues; implement multiple inventory replenishment methodologies as required; develop a consistent and universal inventory part numbering system policy and implement across all inventory departments on campus
  • Manage processes for receiving / stocking / issuing procedures including multi-location, bin management, serialized inventory, lot traceability, and transactions relating to Service Orders and expense accounts
