Project Manager

H2O Innovation is seeking a Project Manager for a newly constructed, state of the art, 0.3 MGD Water Reuse Plant located in Winston-Salem, NC. This position works under the supervision of the Area Manager and will oversee the administration, operation, and maintenance of the Water Reclamation Facility. The Manager will be responsible for the laboratory testing for water quality and process control, operation, maintenance and repair of various pumps, motors, and piping, as well as the plant's process equipment such as membrane bioreactors (MBRs), reverse osmosis (RO), rotary screens, blowers, hydroponic reactors, and ultraviolet disinfection. The manager will calibrate sensors and chemical dosing pumps, order chemicals, supplies, and spare parts. This position will include performing short and long-range planning, plant budgets and monthly reports. Duties will also include managing capital improvement projects. The plant is new, highly automated, and highly complex. Therefore, staffing needs will be minimal.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
  • Bachelor's in Environmental Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Physical Sciences, Engineering, or related degree preferred.
  • Heavy background in maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment, process sensors and systems, and industrial controls.
  • Certification Preferred: State of North Carolina, Wastewater Class 3 or higher license.
  • Five plus years supervising personnel in management, operations, or maintenance of an advanced wastewater treatment plant.
  • Computer and office equipment skills.
  • Public relations and customer service skills.
  • Verbal and written skills, including report writing.
  • Accounting, budgeting, and record-keeping skills.
  • Knowledge of management and leadership principles, organization, and work scheduling.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, equipment, materials, and standards involved in the operations, maintenance, and management of wastewater treatment (WWT) systems.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to assume responsibility.
  • Knowledge of laboratory best practices and safety procedures.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Plan, organize, supervise, and schedule resources to meet program and production goals.
  • Analyze, develop, revise, and improve scheduling, standards, and procurement methods.
  • Conduct studies, analyze data, and prepare reports of findings and recommendations.
  • Formulate and administer budgets.
  • Develop work-related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Modify work assignments of employees in accordance with plant needs.
  • Formulate, interpret, enforce, and apply policies and regulatory requirements controlling plant processes.
  • Recommend staffing levels and equipment purchase and replacement.
  • Analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Develop plant specific safety programs.
  • Advise and consult with direct reports on policy-level and technical aspects of assigned agenda.
  • Facilitate staff meetings and attend appropriate meetings.
  • Develop and implement emergency management guidelines to effectively deal with WWT problems, power outages, flooding, and other factors that could impact public health, safety and or environmental quality.
  • Provide on-call coverage for plant alarms and upsets with remote after-hours response to correct problems
  • Coordinate plant safety and security needs.
  • Assist with the coordination of Capital Improvement Projects to upgrade and/or expand plant facilities.
  • Conduct specialized tours for visitors and VIPs of our unique plant.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with client and host site personnel.
  • Able to strictly adhere to all client and host directives and requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work location is in a plant/office setting (85%) coupled with field inspections at our distribution sites (10%) and then tours and meetings (5%).
  • Frequent public contact by email, telephone and in person.
  • Frequent participation in meetings.
  • Hands-on operations and maintenance (working supervisor).
  • Travel possible but, limited.
  • Vendor contact and interaction.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Requires advanced level mechanical/electrical skills.
  • Must possess ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, schematics, and O&M manuals, etc.
  • Must be versed in verbal and written communication skills to convey information to co-workers, equipment vendors, consultants, contractors, and the general public.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles and any proper licensing needed.
  • The ability to assist in the start-up and commissioning of our new plant.
