Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree Required
- Prefer a master's degree with graduate study/coursework in school administration, sports administration, or educational leadership
- Coursework or experience in evaluating staff is preferred.
- Coursework or experience in budgeting preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of coaching experience with high school and/or middle school sports
- Strong skill set in human relations, communication, problem-solving, and organization
- Ability to serve and relate to a diverse student and parent population
- Ability to coach, mentor, and lead our coaches and student athletes in a collaborative and teamwork based approach
- Experience with organizing and/or facilitating meetings and training for staff members
- Experience in anticipating staffing needs for larger events and coordinating with School Resource Officer
- Evidence of creative visioning and intentional long term planning for program growth, success, and marketing
- Evidence of integrity and the ability to grow from feedback
Responsibilities:
- Creation of a program vision and implementation plan that defines short term and long term goals and objectives for all Middle School and High School Athletic Programs that includes growth, marketing, development, and enhancement of the athletic program
- Oversee the scheduling of all athletic contests, arrange for transportation, and hiring of game officials
- Prepares, submits, and administers the athletic budget each year, working in concert with the building administration.
- Ensure all athletic coach contracts are submitted to Human Resources in an accurate and timely manner.
- Submit coach rosters and athletic volunteer rosters bimonthly to Human Resource Secretary.
- Verifies that all necessary background checks are completed with the Human Resource Secretary for any coach or volunteer prior to the individual supporting our athletic program.
- Provide Human Resources accurate contracts for all coaches to ensure accurate pay
- Development and communication of a financial security plan for events, money collection, and payments.
- Ensure that all coaches are performing their duties at the very highest level of professionalism through a continuous mentoring program and monitoring process
- Responsible for conducting coaching performance assessments at least twice during each season
- Ensure the proper maintenance and security of all athletic equipment, uniforms, and facilities, working in coordination with the coaches, each season
- Supervise and monitor the social media content of the athletics web pages and provide information as needed about athletics for school communication efforts
- Represent the district at various athletic associations
- Maintains records of athletic teams and individual athletic accomplishments
- Maintains and revises coaches' manual each year, and arranges appropriate meetings with the coaches to review the information and standards in detail
- Attends Athletic Booster meetings
- Stays current and disseminates information to coaches that will continually support the growth of the athletic program
- Supervises seasonal Title IX professional development
- Interact with parents, outside agencies, businesses, and the community to enhance understanding of District initiatives and priorities, and to elicit assistance for students.
- Conducts a yearly needs based assessment of the athletic program that results in creative solutions or changes in programs
- Responds to inquiries or concerns in a timely and thorough manner
- Manage the hiring of all coaches. Varsity coaches will be hired in collaboration with the Administration Team.
- Ensures the health and safety of all students in athletic programs and that there is sports medicine coverage at all home events
- Personally and actively supervises, organizes, and executes an event plan for all home high school athletic events that ensures safety, consistency, and professionalism.
- Organizes, plans, and arranges event coverage for middle school events
- Conducts eligibility checks and develops plans, in collaboration with coaches, to offer preventative and program wide academic support for students
- Partners with the high school and middle school teachers to support our student athletes
- Partners with coaches, school staff, and community members to create authentic athletic events that increase fan and family participation
- Provides all coaches with professional development opportunities, including safety training that is expected for persons supervising sports activities (i.e. CPR/AED)
- Communicate all relevant and required information to MHSAA regarding school class counts, issues, and other needed items
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
