As a Technical Lead within 85SIXTY, you will play a crucial role as the lead development voice on projects, internally and with the client, driving the clarification and documentation of strategic & technical functionality in all aspects of enabling technologies to meet business needs. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with excellent programming prowess, as well as strong organizational and communication skills to support the successful execution of projects and contribute to the overall success of agency clients.

Responsibilities:

Technical Execution:
  • Leading the coding, deploying, and overseeing of critical web applications and integrations with third-party apps/services
  • Building out custom Shopify themes and modifying pre-existing themes depending on the scope of the project
  • Working with UX and designers to produce forward-thinking, responsive, accessible, and fast front-end experiences
  • Setting up/configuring Shopify Admin/Backend to meet standard and bespoke implementations
  • Executing data and platform migrations to Shopify
  • Ensuring correct integrations with Shopify APIs, 3rd party APIs, Shopify apps, and marketing tools, optimizing for efficiency and functionality

Project Leadership:
  • Serve as the lead development voice on projects, internally and with the client, driving the clarification and documentation of strategic & technical functionality in all aspects of enabling technologies to meet business needs
  • Work in tandem with AM/PMs/project teams to identify needs, prioritize backlog, resolve conflicts, develop QA criteria, choose solutions, estimate/scope-out level of effort and hours for new features, and assign tasks
  • Working with BA & SA to scope new functionality requests and supporting Sales to scope new projects as needed
  • Ability to move between customer projects, understand business needs that drive features and be consultative throughout project lifecycle

Platform Leadership:
  • Joining and contributing to our resident Shopify Plus expert team (ie/ tips, best practices, articles, tools, methods)
  • Studying latest features of Shopify and can make recommendations to customers when applicable
  • Thirsty for knowledge and willing to learn new technologies, tools and processes

Quality Assurance:
  • Conducting quality checks on tasks and deliverables to ensure code, setups, and configurations meet expected results and agency standards.
  • Performing oversight of projects' development implementation to ensure alignment with scoped solutions and on-time delivery

Vendor/3rd Party Management:
  • Liaising with external parties (vendors, app developers, etc) to ensure timely delivery of services and materials.
  • Assisting in client communication, addressing inquiries, and providing necessary information.

Process Optimization:
  • Evaluating existing engineering processes and recommending improvements for enhanced efficiency.
  • Implementing and documenting standardized procedures to optimize workflow effectiveness.
  • Collaborating with teams to identify bottlenecks and proposing solutions for improvement.

Communication and Collaboration:
  • Facilitating effective communication between engineering and other cross-functional teams.
  • Participating and/or leading team meetings to discuss project updates, challenges, and solutions.
  • Fostering a collaborative and professional working environment.

Team Member Onboarding Support:
  • Assisting in the onboarding process for new team members, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of engineering operations.
  • Offering guidance on internal processes and facilitating a smooth integration into the team's work culture.


Desired Qualifications:
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Minimum 4 years experience as a Shopify developer, working in a team environment - both Frontend and Backend
  • Minimum 3 years experience in working in a senior role, where you have had a chance to mentor and assist other team members.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a client facing support role
  • Minimum 2 years experience in requirements gathering / solutioning for Shopify and Shopify Plus with a solid understanding of Shopify Plus technologies and how they apply to a given solution.Expert knowledge of Shopify Liquid and Shopify Admin/Backend
  • Expert level knowledge of Javascript, HTML5, CSS3
  • Intermediate knowledge of React / Remix
  • Experience with Shopify Hydrogen and headless projects is a plus
  • Familiarity with digital marketing implementations and debugging (analytics, GTM, dataLayer)
  • Familiarity with agency workflows is a plus.
  • Capable of and willingness to learn new technologies and platforms quickly and able to apply them to solve complex problems.

Compensation Disclaimer:

Compensation Range: $120,000 - $140,000 annually. Actual compensation is based on multiple factors that are unique to each candidate, including and not limited to job-related knowledge, level of relevant experience, education, skills and geographic location (to account for comparative cost of living). 85SIXTY reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time.
