Taylor is a city in Wayne County, Michigan. Originally known as Taylor Township, residents of the township voted to incorporate as the City of Taylor in May 1968. Taylor is the 17th most populous city in Michigan and the 543rd largest city in the United States. The township was named in honor of Zachary Taylor, a national military hero in the 1840s who was elected in 1849 to be the twelfth President of the United States. The city is 18 miles southwest of Detroit and a member of the Downriver Community.
