The Electrical designer - Instrument transformers will workin the CVT engineering team designing Capacitive Voltage Transformers of 72.5to 1200 kV voltage class used for metering, protection and control of the highvoltage systems. Located at our Pickering office, the candidate willstandardize existing and develop innovative engineering solutions to ensurebest in class product performance, reliability, efficiency and customerexperience. Development and optimization of existing design and engineering toolsand methods in the area supporting decarbonization & growing energy supplyare further job highlights. Tasks include the collaboration with customers,internal stakeholders (Sales, Order Management, Procurement, QualityManagement), and Suppliers, to develop and implement technical solutionsensuring the highest customer satisfaction.

Your Tasks:
  • Perform the electrical design of transformers including calculation and design of intermediate transformer, compensation reactor, ferro-resonance damping, capacitor divider, accuracy calculations as per customer specifications and rule book for quotation and order stages.
  • Review and approve quotations, order documentation, and engineering documentation (drawings, BOMs) as per internal criteria.
  • Ensure that the products meet all customer specifications, applicable regulations, and performance standards.
  • Prepare inspection and test plans, routine and type test programs in accordance with applicable standards and customer specifications.
  • Standardization of designs, development and improvement of internal calculation procedures and tools, material specifications, and modification of product design to ensure 100% First Pass Yield.
  • Contribute to Root Cause Analysis of electrical failures during Factory Acceptance Tests and in service, as well as initiate appropriate corrective actions.
  • Contribute to Supplier Process and Product Qualification process by providing material specification, reviewing and approving Supplier drawings for major parts to ensure compliance with technical specifications, providing inspection and test instructions, reviewing the performance tests results, and supplier deviation requests.
  • Train/coach employees in the team and ensure stable performance (Electrical and Mechanical design) and consistent knowledge management.
  • Cross-factory collaboration and networking within Trench group of companies (9 facilities worldwide and headquarter office in Germany) in the area of responsibility (calculation procedures, processes, lessons learned, best practices).
  • Preparation, planning, coordination and supervision of the assigned technical activities, report to line manager.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, energy management or a comparable subject.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience and expertise in electrical design of medium or high voltage products such as power/distribution transformers, instrument transformers, switchgear, high voltage equipment- or system design with measurement and protection application.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • Experience in the commissioning and/or operation/maintenance of mentioned equipment is an asset.
  • Proficient in the interpretation and application of relevant international and local standards governing the design and installation of electrical components in North America (incl. ANSI, IEEE, IEC, CSA).
  • Knowledge of international standards for instrument transformers will be an
    asset.
  • Ability to focus on detailed work and able to handle multiple tasks in parallel while meeting high quality standards and project timelines.
  • Proven planning, organization, time management, and leadership skills and intercultural expertise.
  • Professional engineer designation or EIT is an asset.
  • Good communication/presentation skills as well as basic commercial knowledge.
  • Readiness for occasional national and international business trips (technical conferences, standardization committees).
