The Windows & Virtualization Senior technical Resource for Windows and VMware technology within the Infrastructure Operations
- Key contributions to Operational Strategy and it's execution to increase the efficiency, reliability and stability of Windows & Virtualization infrastructure and its operation
- Technical Authority and Project management support for large, Windows and Virtualization related Operational Projects
- Technical leadership and mentoring of Engineers working in cross-functional teams
Essential Duties
- Develops and evolves Operational standards and requirements for introduction of new and the standardization of existing Technologies and Architectures
- Works closely with Engineering functions to establish and embed Service Transition Processes and Procedures for new Windows and VMware infrastructure Technologies
- Leads on medium to high complexity Technical Operational Projects such as Data Centre Server farm refreshes providing technical direction, project management support and coordination with internal customer & partner teams outside the function
- Develops and delivers an ongoing knowledge management strategy that drives up technical acumen and skill amongst Windows and VMware Engineers within the Infrastructure Operations function
- Devises a framework for on-going Service Continuity Testing as it relates to Windows & VMware Services that ensures disaster recovery/service continuity readiness while highlighting service risks or areas for optimization
- Researches and develops holistic approach and delivers on plans to drive up levels of automation for Day to day Operation of environments, increasing reliability and predictability while reducing overhead and toil
- Acts as a Senior Incident and Problem resolution escalation point for Windows and VMware Service issues when required
- Supports function leadership decision-making where deep technical knowledge input is required
Required Qualifications/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
- 10 years of professional experience in Systems Engineering (Windows) and Virtualisation (VMware) in large, mission critical environments
- Deep knowledge of and implementation experience within large scale, highly available distributed virtualized, Windows environments, on-going management and optimisation in 24x7 mission critical environments
- Strong PowerShell, PowerCLI & Shell abilities for task automation, including utilization of REST web services proficiently in design and implementation
- Superior level of Active Directory, Group Policy, DFS, DFSR and Failover Cluster knowledge and experience
- Deep experience in the implementation and management of VMware technologies and tooling including vSphere ESXi, vSAN, vRealize Ops Manager
- Exceptional experience analyzing and troubleshooting and of diagnostic tooling/techniques for Windows and VMware Systems environments
- Exceptional experience of VMware and windows infrastructure service monitoring, performance tuning and sizing for various workload types
- Very strong understanding of networking and network security concepts, TCP/IP and common local area network protocols
- Strong experience with business continuity concepts and design techniques as applied to Virtualized Windows Environments and related disaster recovery planning and testing
- Detailed knowledge and extensive implementation experience of hardening and best practice security standard for Windows and VMware
- Has the ability, curiosity and desire to understand the broader technology ecosystem outside own area of expertise in order to understand true impact of own proposals, decisions and actions
- Deals well with ambiguity and can use data driven, analytical problem solving skills to find solutions
- Possesses exceptional communication and documentation skills to be able to interact professionally and work productively with all levels of employees
- A team player with extensive track record in technical mentoring and knowledge sharing with Engineers
