Genesee IntermediateJob Summary: The Energy Manager is responsible for establishing accountability for energy consumption at every level within a seven-district consortium. This role involves developing and monitoring the consortium's energy management program under approved policies and guidelines to reduce utility consumption. Key responsibilities include administration and record-keeping, accountability, reporting, program implementation, promoting employee involvement, and ensuring compliance with the consortium's energy policy and guidelines.

Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
  • Maintain the energy education program to promote energy conservation through positive feedback and involve all personnel in taking ownership of the program's success.
  • Coordinate with internal public relations support to utilize media opportunities to promote the successes of the consortium's energy management program.
  • Serve as the consortium's representative at management-level meetings, seminars, and conferences related to energy use and conservation.
  • Advise, assist, and make recommendation to the local superintendents of the consortium on alternate energy sources, consumption, and general energy conservation measures.
  • Develop and maintain contact with federal and state agencies and monitor state and national energy policy trends.
  • Provide input on capital projects related to energy management and the purchase of any products that affect energy consumption.
  • Prepare energy requirement estimates and budget allotments for all consortium facilities and develop procedures for efficient energy utilization.
  • Review all energy and water consumption records and data, including records of federal energy conservation grants received by the consortium.
  • Report to boards of education on the status and success of the program, as requested.
  • Provide regular communication with principals and custodial staff regarding the status of their buildings' energy consumption.
  • Conduct regular "walk-through" audits of all consortium facilities to ensure operating efficiency, an optimal educational environment, and compliance with the consortium's energy policy.
  • Implement weekday, weekend, holiday, and summer shutdown checklists for every building in the consortium.
  • Oversee the setback program for every building on weeknights, weekends, holidays, and summer recess.
  • Work with local district business managers to ensure districts are on the proper utility rate schedule and is receiving correct billing.
  • Coordinate with maintenance directors on the installation and/or repairs of energy management systems and maintain wiring and installation diagrams of the systems.
  • Assist with the design and maintenance of the programming for computerized energy management systems to ensure operating efficiency and recommend changes as necessary.
  • Work with building and maintenance personnel on the proper operation of systems and equipment

  • Qualifications:

    Education:
    Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or environmental science required. Master's degree preferred. Certifications such as the Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) are highly desirable.

    Experience:
    Minimum of three years of experience in project management, and be knowledgeable about energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy sources. Facilitating training programs, or making group presentation required. Supervisory experience preferred.

    Skills/Other:
    Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, staff, and community partners. Ability to analyze and interpret technical data and communicate it to non-technical individuals. Proficiency in utilizing technology and maintaining skill sets as required by changing technology and/or the needs of the consortium. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to present information to individuals and groups in an understandable manner. Ability to solve problems logically and effectively, manage multiple tasks, and demonstrate effective time management skills to meet deadlines and produce quality work. Demonstrated mental/physical ability and stamina for meeting the essential duties of the position. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times. Discretion with confidential information. Ability to work a flexible workday, workweek, and work year. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Ability to exercise good judgement and make decisions in accordance with board policies and established administrative guidelines.
