Position Highlights
This position leads the Economic and Business Research Center while conducting research on the Arizona economy and engaging with the state and local community. The Center is the premier source of economic information on Arizona's economy and is a leader in the digital delivery of that information through websites and a smartphone app.

Duties & Responsibilities
- The Director secures and completes externally funded research projects, including the Forecasting Project (econometric models housed in Eviews designed to forecast Arizona's state and local economies as well as state and local government tax revenues), economic impact studies, housing and demographic studies, and other funded research projects.
- In order to set the strategic direction of the Center, the director will be responsible for:
- Regular public interactions with the Arizona community to determine needs for economic information (forecasts, analysis, data).
- Regular interactions with other Arizona economists/consulting firms to understand the competitive environment for Center services.
- Gather information on national firms that offer information on the Arizona economy to understand the competitive environment for Center services.
- The Center director will implement data management skills in understanding how the Center currently delivers data, analysis, and forecasts through our websites and smartphone app.
- The director will need to understand data management programs/apps (like Eviews, R, datazoa.com, drupal) as well as data coming from state and federal government agencies (Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Bureau of Economic Analysis, Arizona Department of Revenue) in order to supervise Center research economists and our webmaster in providing data, analysis, and forecasts.
- The Center is part of the outreach mission of the College and the University. The Center Director routinely engages with the state and local business and government communities through large Economic Outlook events, speaking engagements, research and writing published on Center websites (Arizona's Economy, the MAP Dashboard, Arizona-Mexico Economic Indicators), and contact with national, state, and local media.
- The Director leads the EBRC and is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Center, managing and supervising staff, and obtaining extramural funding.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Knowledge in regional economic analysis.
- Knowledge in using econometric models to forecast state and local economies and tax revenues.
- Knowledge/skills in conducting economic impact studies using IMPLAN or REMI.
- Strong communication skills in English to conduct economic presentations to large and small groups, as well as interviews with national, state, and local media.
- Strong writing skills in English to communicate complex economic ideas to a general audience.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 9 years of related work experience, including 5 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Experience leading a team, project, program, or function is typically required.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Economics, Finance or related field or equivalent experience.
- Experience conducting (and leading researchers conducting) regional economic research.
- Master's preferred.
