JOB SUMMARY

The commercial banker is responsible for developing new commercial relationships as well as maintaining the existing portfolio through proactively managing the portfolio and building relationships.

Note: Areas of specialty may vary between bankers. For example, a banker may specialize / focus their efforts on CRE, C&I, SBA government lending, etc. This is a multi-level position. All levels essentially have the same job responsibilities, but bring different levels of experience and expertise. Senior bankers, for example, handle the largest and most complex portfolios in terms of credit complexity, dollar volume and size, and operate within credit authority for any credit decisions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Business Development / Sales and Relationship Management
  • Meet or exceed fiscal year loan production goals (set annually)
  • Attracting, growing and retaining long term profitable customer relationships
  • Develops and maintains a qualified prospect list and active center of influence referral network.
  • Identifies product opportunities independently. Sells full set of products offered by the Bank
  • Establishes and maintains customer relationships by staying current with industry trends in order to meet expectations of changing demands in the marketplace
  • Researches potential customers, keeps up-to-date on key competitors, understands and responds to the needs and expectations of relevant customer segments, establishes effective working relationships with prospects to gain their respect; and identifies opportunities presented by changes in the marketplace.

2. Referrals
  • Develops sales/referral strategy for expanding relationships with customers and prospects
  • Leads business development efforts for introducing customers to bank leaders and other internal partners for relationship deepening and cross-selling opportunities.

3. Maintain Portfolio / Credit Quality
  • Meet or exceed Quality Goal: Percentage of Past Due (30+) < 1.5%; Technical Exceptions
  • Partners effectively with credit officers as the first level sponsor for credit decisions.
  • Leads and participates in credit processes and assumes ultimate accountability for all portfolio activities/issues ensuring sound asset quality, including underwriting, structuring and portfolio management activities, including:
  • Reviews and analyzes customer financial status and risk condition to prepare recommendations and
  • Ensures accurate loan documentation
  • Manages loan portfolio to ensure loan conformity and accurate risk ratings,
  • Completes renewals in a timely manner
  • Manages the tickler system, past dues, and customer overdrafts
  • Maintains working knowledge of laws and regulations in order to ensure tasks completed are compliant
  • Partners with credit analysts to prepare and maintain reports required by management and/or other regulators in a timely and accurate manner.

4. Community Involvement and Foster Relationships with Center of Influence
  • Builds community relationships to grow business and expand relationships
  • Foster Relationships with centers of influence, including Accounting and Law Firms, etc.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education-
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent work experience with increasing responsibility
  • Preferred: Ongoing education such as banking school or Master's Degree

Experience-
  • Banker I: 3-5 years' experience in credit or related financial experience
  • Banker II: 5-8 years' experience in credit or related financial experience
