Position Summary

The Benefits Manager, Human Resources is responsible for the administration of employee group benefits programs (group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, worker's compensation, life insurance, travel and accident plan, flexible spending plan, retirement plans, etc.). This position provides excellent customer service and designs quality benefits plans. This person will serve as the subject matter expert in employee benefits.

Essential Functions
  • Conducts interviews and hiring of direct reports. Completes a ninety-day introductory and annual performance evaluation of each direct report. Facilitates professional growth and improved proficiency of staff who are direct and indirect reports through mentoring and training. Conducts ongoing performance management of each direct report; establishes performance goals; and measures performance against goals.
  • Responsible for overall administration and compliance of all benefits programs and serves as the subject matter expert in the Human Resources department for all benefit related matters. Responsible for employee benefits education at new-hire orientation and is responsible for coordinating annual open enrollment for all benefits carriers.
  • Serves as primary contact with benefits brokers/consultants and plan providers to ensure efficient administration of benefits plans. Research, analyze and recommend new benefit programs for Company to remain competitive and manage costs related to benefit plans. Implement programs providing effective communication and training to employees.
  • Responsible for management of the systems and technology to support the benefits plans. Works closely with payroll and ensures that all carriers, benefits and costs are set up in the HRIS.
  • Ensures the accuracy of all employee benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information and to ensure efficient transmission of automatic feeds from HRIS to carrier. Processes benefits related invoices and payments, and bill reconciliation to ensure accuracy.
  • Assists employees and managers with benefits claim issues and plan changes, inquiries on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries. Distributes all benefits enrollment materials.
  • Responsible for the Wellness program, and all monthly initiatives.
  • Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork. Ensures HRIS is documented, manager is informed. Coordinates return to work process with employee and manager. Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities. Manages Employee Relations as it relates to Leave administration.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field of study required.
    • 5-7 years of HR experience in Benefits required.

    Required Skills
    • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite required, ADP workforce now preferred.
