About the Role

The Machinery Control System Specialist in the Asset Team is a key role in the technical organization supporting the safe and reliable start-up as well as continued operation of the LNG Canada Asset.

The incumbent will provide technical management of the critical control systems and monitoring systems for rotating equipment, as part of the LNG Engineering operations support team responsible for the start-up, commissioning, maintenance, and integrity of all plant rotating equipment. The role will have a focus on execution and take accountability for gas turbine control systems, firewater control systems, diesel engine controls and vibration protection systems.

The role will focus developing integrity and reliability improvement programs supporting the plant and equipment managing obsolescence and integration of the rotating equipment control system into the wider plant control system.

You will use your expertise to:
  • Manage control systems to drive safety of operation and reliability.
  • Work with the wider process control team to have an integrate approach to overall Asset reliability and safety.
  • Manage obsolescence of control systems components.
  • Manage safety system for rotating equipment.
  • Manage IT security for control systems and supporting computer interfaces as well as remote access.
  • Interface with the control system OEM and their engineering team.
  • Ability to adapt leading digital technologies to enhance efficiency.
  • Drive Trip Reduction Program for Gas Turbine control systems.
  • Develop maintenance strategies and procedures for the rotating equipment control systems and protection systems.
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosis of rotating equipment control systems during start up, commissioning and operation, especially Aeroderivative Gas Turbines.
  • Organize and control diagnostic assessments and fault identification in Rotating equipment safety instrumented systems/monitoring systems. Take action to improve their reliability and efficiency.
  • Contributing to the scope of Shutdown and Major Maintenance activities.
  • Ensuring all control system modifications follow the Management of Change process.
  • Identify Bad Actor equipment and develop improvement plans to increase uptime.
  • Monitor and make recommendations on technology advances.

Skills and Attributes:
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical/Mechanical/ Process/Chemical Engineering with Instrumentation and Control background. Technical Diploma in the same with significant instrument and control background.
  • Ideally 10 years of progressive experience in Rotating equipment control systems operations and maintenance experience, in particular GE Mark VIeS, safety systems, Bentley Nevada vibration monitoring systems, and Compressor Surge protection systems.
  • Demonstrate experience with safety management systems and commitment to safety.
  • Significant experience in the engineering support for operations and maintenance of complex rotating equipment control systems.
  • Experience in an LNG Plant is desirable.
  • Experience with gas turbine control systems.
  • Experience with vibration monitoring and protection systems.
  • Experience in the leading the preparation and execution of quality management systems for rotating equipment.
  • Understanding compliance requirement for local and statutory regulations
  • High-level of interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to become a licensed P. Eng in British Columbia or P. Licensee Engineering (P.L. Eng) will be supported.

This role requires that you:
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)
  • Live in the beautiful District of Stikine (Kitimat/Terrace). For applicants located outside of the region, you are encouraged to explore what Kitimat has to offer in terms of lifestyle including schooling, local amenities, outdoor adventure, and housing, to ensure Kitimat is where you would like to call your new home.
  • During Commissioning and Start-up work Monday to Friday10 hrs./per day (50 hrs. per week). Depending on the week, may work weekends.
  • During Operate move to 8 hrs. per day, Monday to Friday
  • Know that this role may be expected to be on call on a rotational basis during the year and/or during site specific situations.
  • Know that during unplanned outages, start-up, campaign maintenance and turnaround events will require additional effort including longer hours.
  • Are willing to work outdoors during inclement weather in all seasons including heavy snowfall and periods of heavy rain.
  • Are able to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces. Plant design conditions provide structures that are significantly taller than common in industry, individuals must be comfortable with heights as well as travel to and from the workface at heights.
  • Are willing to comply with LNGC's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Undergo a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, a background check and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs.
  • Have a Valid Driver's license.
  • Have ownership behaviour of the control systems.
  • Are a member of a rotating equipment team of specialists.
  • Are a member of wider process control community at LNGC.
  • Know that this is not a fly-in, fly-out rotation role.
