A little bit about the role:

ORBCOMM is looking for an Operations Leader for our Transportation Line of Business that will play a crucial role by overseeing and optimizing all aspects of operational processes. Role will be responsible for developing and executing operational strategies that align with the company's broader business objectives, ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality. Key responsibilities include implementing best practices and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. They work to enhance profitability through cost control, process optimization, and quality assurance while ensuring compliance with regulations and ethical standards.

Additionally, the role will enable cross-functional collaboration to support business goals, leverage technology for operational excellence, and lead change initiatives. Role's contributions are essential not only for day-to-day operations but also in shaping the company's long-term valuation. The ideal candidate will be based in Ottawa, ON or Sterling, VA.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Business Strategy and Alignment:
  • Strategic Alignment: Align business goals with corporate vision and goals and ensure strategic alignment across all departments.
  • Key Migrations: Work with cross-functional teams executing key migrations to improve operational efficiency and achieve strategic objectives. Facilitate smooth transitions of clients from the sales phase to delivery.

Business Value Creation:
  • Prepare for Due Diligence: During the valuation or acquisition process, the operations leader alongside GM will provide detailed information on operational practices, efficiencies, and risks.
  • Valuation Levers: Operations leader will work with the GM to develop a strategy for achieving the targeted valuation by highlighting plays and levers that will enable higher multiples.

Financial:
  • Budget Management (ARR): Work cross functionally to develop, manage, and course correct the quarterly and monthly operational plan alongside key ARR plays.
  • Profitability (GM): Monitor and analyze the financial performance of operations, identifying opportunities to improve margins and overall profitability. Identify areas for cost savings without compromising quality or performance.
  • Cash: Work with ISC to execute a plan to burn down inventory. Work alongside AR team to achieve DSO targets

Quality Assurance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure Quality Standards: Work with Engineering and ISC to establish plan for identifying and resolving product issues. Enable a detailed plan through cross functional collaboration and ensure management system is in place to resolve issues.


Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Cross Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments like sales, engineering, finance, and customer service to ensure that operations support the broader business objectives and customer needs.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Engage with key customers to understand their requirements and ensure that operational processes are tailored to meet those needs effectively.

Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Track KPIs: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) for operations, monitor progress, and use data to drive decision-making. This includes metrics related to ARR, GM, Cash.
  • Reporting and Communication: Provide regular reports and updates to senior leadership on the performance of operations, including progress toward strategic goals and areas requiring attention.


Desired Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or a related field(MBA, MAC or equivalent graduate degree preferred)
  • 5-10 years supervisory experience in operations or related field, preferably related to Transportation IoT
  • Previous P&L responsibility required
    • Ability to manage the quarterly and annual budgeting process and P&L responsibilities
  • Strong business acumen with a broad understanding of fundamental business principles and strategies
  • Experience with IT migrations and building roadmaps
  • Ability to set overall strategy and drive process improvement
  • Proven track record of building and managing KPIs
  • Proven track record as a team leader with an understanding of management practices
  • Demonstrated project and budget management skills
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with an impeccable attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate and work with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; experience communicating with Senior Leadership Team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Teams, Word)
