Overview

The Senior Pricing Analyst plays a critical role in the key areas of client financial requirements and alternative fee arrangements. This role will ensure that all relevant client engagement, pricing, billing and budget information is appropriately consolidated and effectively communicated to the impacted groups within Finance. This position coordinates several of the functions around setting up and maintaining pricing-related data, specifically in the area of alternative fee arrangements (AFAs). This position plays a critical role in the management of non-AFA related exception rates.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Monitor the intake of new matters and clients to ensure all financial requirements are documented, applied and communicated in a timely manner:
    • Review client engagement letters to identify any impact to Finance terms, including any exceptions to Outside Counsel Guidelines.
    • Ensure engagement letter terms and conditions are incorporated into client pricing terms, including all information required to successfully invoice clients.
    • Validate new client/matter setups against approved staffing/pricing requirements.
    • Communicates to applicable partners, members of the billing team, management, etc. regarding AFAs and exception rates that have been approved and set up for billing; AFAs are verified for accuracy with partners prior to setup.

    2. Maintain a thorough understanding of complex alternative fee arrangements (AFAs) while also administering approved client/matter exception rates. Ensure that:
    • Pricing Committee approved billing arrangements such as fixed fees, exception rates, tiered discounts, etc. are thoroughly documented and set up within the financial system.
    • New and/or modified AFAs are recorded in our tracking database on a daily basis.
    • Fixed fee and tiered billing arrangements are consistently monitored and reported on; new discount levels within tiered AFAs are setup and applied when thresholds are met.
    • Design, build and implement tools and processes used by the firm to better manage the review, approval, set up and documentation of AFAs.

    3. Respond to requests for quotes using economics models to assess the profitability of new business proposals and assist in the development of creative, workable pricing solutions, including alternative fee arrangements.


Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, finance or business. MBA or JD preferred.

2. Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in pricing, revenue management or financial reporting and analysis, or equivalent. Law firm or service industry preferred.

3. Supervisory experience required.

4. Experience with financial database software is required, particularly those used in the professional services industry such as Elite or Aderant.

5. Demonstrated expertise with MS Excel, including advanced features such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP functionality, filtering, graphs and advanced formulas. Experience with VBA and custom macros is highly desired.

6. Demonstrated excellence in both written and verbal communication skills is required.

7. Superior customer service focus and a demonstrated ability to work in challenging, time-sensitive and dynamic environment.

8. Must be a team player with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to a proactive, collaborative environment.

9. Experience and interest in extracting and reporting of data using standard query language (SQL) is highly desired.

10. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

11. Requires a strong work ethic; ability to quickly adapt to shifting priorities, capable of carrying out routine, everyday tasks with limited direction/supervision.

12. Ability to work outside of established business hours and adjust personal schedule to meet deadlines is required.

Compensation and Total Rewards Package

Ropes & Gray is proud to offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package to our business support team members. The anticipated pay range for this role is BOS: $69,000 - $103,000 and NY: $72,5000 - $108,000, which represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.

Working Conditions

This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role. Consistent and predictable on-site presence is required for ongoing business continuity, professional development and effective collaboration with colleagues and management.
