SUMMARY: This position provides 24 hour managerial and clinical support to patients and staff. Uses depth and breadth of clinical management knowledge to ensure the provision of high quality, safe, and cost effective patient care. Demonstrates clinical expertise and oversees the leadership of clinical, financial, and personnel management of assigned areas.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises all unit nursing and support staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for patient care supervision, management activities and staff development.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills through involvement in unit activities.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills.
  • Provides for the delivery of patient care through the utilization of the nursing process.
  • Develops and implements staffing plan which defines the number and mix of nursing personnel in accordance with current patient care needs, staff competency and scope of services. Reviews and adjusts staffing schedule to meet the needs of the department.
  • Follows and implements overtime guidelines.
  • Provides direct care and functions as a staff nurse to meet staffing needs of unit when necessary.
  • Oversees the operations of the unit to ensure smooth and efficient patient care management. Assures appropriate patient assignments to beds and staff.
  • Completes daily rounding on patients and staff to ensure quality provision of care as per our Journey 2 Excellence expectations.
  • Manage the unit to ensure patient and employee satisfaction while promoting safety and retention.
  • Serves as a real-time resource and assists with clinical expertise for unit staff and physicians for problem-solving on patients, processes, and family issues.
  • Coordinates quality initiatives and process improvements.
  • Aligns and manages to metrics.
  • Develops leadership skills among staff including communication, decision-making, problem solving, critical thinking, and employee engagement.
  • Leads the development of staff and supports career advancement opportunities. Functions as a role model and encourages staff to participate in their own development.
  • Facilitates unit meetings and shared governance/leadership efforts.
  • Uses peer selection interviewing, orientation, on-boarding, and retention. Demonstrates leadership through coaching, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and development opportunities to create a culture of learning.
  • Responsible for the development of the operational and capital budget and provides daily operational resource management including staff, supplies, and equipment. Ensures optimal productivity for the department, and adjusts staffing and other costs as necessary.
  • Supports administration in the implementation of goals and visions, maintaining positive behavior. Serves as a positive and professional role model for staff.
  • Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of OGHS with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.
  • Assists in identifying and evaluation of the Emergency Preparedness for both campuses following Joint Commissions standards.
  • Assists in development of policy, procedures, and education in the department and related to Emergency Preparedness program in coordination with Safety Coordinator as needed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education /Training/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred, Associate degree in Nursing required.
  • 5 years of documented clinical expertise in Emergency services
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Completes annual mandatory requirements

License(s), Certification(s), Registration(s), Accreditation(s)
  • Current RN licensure in the State of Louisiana
  • CPR, ACLS, PALS required
  • CCRN, ENPC, TNCC preferred
  • Advanced certification preferred: CEN and/or CPEN.
