Job Description:

SUMMARY

Provides leadership for the Jack, Joseph and MortonMandel Humanities Center and the Mandel Scholars Academy. Designs, manages, implements, supervises, andevaluates all components of the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel HumanitiesCenter.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Oversees all aspects of the Mandel Scholars Academy, including recruitment, curricular design, and co-curricular programming
  • Hires, empowers, and evaluates the performance of the Mandel Center staff. Through the staff, oversees the Tri-C Honors Program, the Mandel Continuing Scholars Program, the Mandel Youth Humanities Academy, the Cleveland Humanities Collaborative, mentoring for Mandel Scholars, and other honors and scholars programming
  • Designs, leads, and supports domestic and international travel opportunities for Mandel Scholars and other Tri-C students
  • Coordinates the Mandel Faculty Fellows program
  • Works with community partners to develop and promote engagement with the humanities and to develop leaders for northeast Ohio who have thought broadly and deeply about the human experience
  • Represents the Center at professional conferences and public events, and seeks opportunities to enhance the Center's local and national profile
  • Recruits Tri-C faculty to be involved with the Mandel Center's Faculty Advisory Committee, a faculty-led committee that offers input on and supports the Center's work through standing and ad hoc working groups
  • Recruits members for and convenes meetings with the Mandel Center's National Advisory Board, a committee of local and national leaders in humanities education, civic engagement, and leadership development
  • Engages in scholarly work and ongoing professional development in the humanities, pedagogy, civic engagement, leadership development, and/or other areas relevant to the work of the Mandel Center
  • Performs other duties as assigned


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Minimum of five years of administrative, management, or supervisory experience in an academic institution
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing and evaluating academic programs
  • Demonstrated experience leading and supervising a team
  • Demonstrated experience managing a program budget
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary faculty
  • Demonstrated successful grant-writing experience
  • Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have significant, broad implications on the management and operations of a division (or equivalent business area)
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem solving methods in adaptive situations

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Ph.D. in a humanities discipline (e.g. literature, philosophy, history) or a related field (e.g. social science)
  • Collegiate teaching experience
  • Formal training in leadership development
  • Familiarity with the concept of and strategies for cultivating intellectual virtue
  • Demonstrated experience working with and supporting students from diverse backgrounds, including cultural, political, religious, ethnic and racial diversity
  • Experience in a leadership role (such as Dean or Director) in honors education
  • Experience representing a program or institution to internal and external partners

  • The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment;

  • Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite


Special Note: Target Starting Salary Range: $117,000 to $123,000

The final offer for the successful candidate is targeted to fall within this range but will be based upon an assessment of internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications in relation to the minimum and/or preferred job requirement(s).
