Job Summary:
PIC Group is offering an excellent opportunity for a Synchronous Condenser Commissioning Oversight Manager to join a power plant conversion project in central Utah. This role involves overseeing the commissioning activities for a large-scale synchronous condenser project. Reporting to the Site Manager, the Oversight Manager will ensure that all commissioning tasks are completed safely, on time, and according to project specifications.
The project includes two coal-fired electric generation units, a 345 kV AC switchyard, an AC/DC converter station, and several high-voltage transmission lines spanning multiple states. The Synchronous Condenser Commissioning Oversight Manager will play a key role in ensuring that all components are integrated successfully into the broader transmission infrastructure, ensuring reliable energy transfer between states.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure the successful and timely commissioning of the synchronous condenser project in accordance with specified standards, contractual requirements, and industry best practices.
Provide diligent oversight of the contractor's commissioning activities to guarantee compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and quality expectations.
Serve as the project's representative, monitoring, coordinating, and reporting on all commissioning-related activities.
During Pre-Commissioning, ensure the project is on track for successful commissioning by overseeing the contractor's activities and ensuring compliance with standards and expectations.
Monitor and evaluate the contractor's progress during the commissioning phase to ensure alignment with the project schedule.
Conduct regular inspections of commissioning activities, equipment, and systems.
Verify the implementation of safety protocols and compliance with environmental regulations during the commissioning phase.
Collaborate with the contractor to resolve any issues or challenges that arise during the commissioning process.
Oversee the collection and validation of all commissioning documentation, including test records, as-built drawings, and equipment manuals.
Prepare regular status reports detailing the progress of the commissioning activities, noting any deviations and proposing corrective actions.
Coordinate and witness acceptance testing procedures to ensure they meet project specifications.
Facilitate the final acceptance of commissioned systems and equipment on behalf of the Owner.
Verify that all commissioning documentation is complete and accurate for handover to the Owner.
Assist in ensuring a smooth transition from commissioning to the operational phase.
Job Requirements:
Demonstrated capability in all phases of commissioning.
Capable of managing multiple tasks at once, while keeping detailed records of progress.
Ability to work in a team environment with a wide range of personnel.
Ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures.
Prior hands on experience with high voltage 345 kV AC Switchyards, up to 500kV DC Transmission lines, and up to 345 kV Transmission lines.
Good interpersonal and communication skills required with all levels of personnel, both internal and external to the project.
Education / Experience:
High School Diploma required
Four-year Electrical Engineering degree preferred OR the equivalent combination of technical training and 20+ years' experience in commissioning and high voltage electrical applications.
Degreed candidates should have 15+ years of commissioning experience.
10+ years of experience in commissioning oversight for projects with generators overs 300MVA, generator step up transformers, or controls and protection systems for synchronous condensers.
