Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Network Firewall Engineer to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of hands-on experience with Cisco and Palo Alto firewalls and a strong background in AWS cloud implementation and security. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and troubleshooting complex firewall infrastructures in both on-premises and cloud environments.

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Network Firewall Engineer to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of hands-on experience with Cisco and Palo Alto firewalls and a strong background in AWS cloud implementation and security. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and troubleshooting complex firewall infrastructures in both on-premises and cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Implementation: Develop and implement firewall solutions using Cisco and Palo Alto technologies to meet DoD business and security needs.
- Firewall Management: Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network firewalls, VPNs, and security policies across a global infrastructure.
- Cloud Security: Collaborate with the cloud engineering team to implement firewall and security solutions in AWS cloud environment.
- Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor firewall performance and security, ensure optimal network traffic flow, and continuously optimize configurations.
- Incident Response: Respond to and resolve firewall-related security incidents and alerts, collaborating with other security teams to address vulnerabilities.
- Compliance and Documentation: Ensure firewall configurations and operations comply with security standards and regulatory requirements. Document firewall configurations, policies, and change management processes.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with network engineers, cloud architects, and security teams to align firewall management with overall network architecture.
- Training and Mentoring: Provide guidance and training to junior engineers on firewall and network security best practices.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Certifications: REQUIRED: CCNA and CompTIA Security+ are required.
- CCNP Security, PCNSE (Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer) cloud certifications are a plus.
- 8+ years of experience in the following areas:
- Configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting Cisco and Palo Alto firewalls.
- Cloud Experience: Hands-on experience with implementing firewall solutions in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Networking Expertise: In-depth knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, etc.), VPNs, NAT, load balancing, and routing/switching.
- Security Focus: Strong understanding of security principles, network security, and DoD firewall best practices.
- Firewall Technologies: Expertise in Cisco ASA/Firepower and Palo Alto Networks platforms, including Panorama for centralized management.
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex firewall and network issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with SD-WAN and next-generation firewall features (IPS, IDS, DPI, etc.).
- Experience with automation and scripting (Python, Ansible, etc.) for firewall configuration and management.
- Familiarity with security frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or CIS Controls.
- Knowledge of network monitoring tools and SIEM solutions for security event correlation and response.

- Detail-oriented with excellent documentation skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
