What will you be doing in this role?

The role of Sr. Automation Engineer is to actively participate in the development of standard and customized control system solutions for various applications in semiconductor manufacturing. Initially duties will involve considerable collaboration with and guidance from other team members to specify, develop, modify, test, troubleshoot, document, deploy, and support new or existing control system and related software for FerroTec products, internal scientific research, or in pursuit of other goals. Project timeframes may range from short tasks of a few hours to development efforts on the order of many months. After an acclimation period, Automation Engineer is expected to take on additional responsibilities and goals, including work planning and coordination across other team member(s), as well as providing technical direction and mentorship.
What Success Looks Like:
  • Develop, modify, and maintain software primarily in the areas of automated machine control, machine supervision, and data collection. This shall require mastery of a spectrum of development tools and a thorough understanding of Ferrotec applications, products, and processes.
  • In addition to advanced technical skills, a cornerstone requirement is solid communications skills. Essential is the ability to easily comprehend and exchange written and verbal ideas and instructions with others. Organized, direct, and unambiguous writing is required for the generation of documentation, procedures, logs, and instructions, both for internal and external consumption.
  • The role of Engineer III shall also require the partnering with other engineering disciplines and personnel in various company departments, as well as routine interaction with customers or top management where professional demeanor, self-expression, competence, appearance, integrity, and trust are vital.
  • The role will frequently necessitate the ability to distill key project-relevant information from vast quantities of documentation without having to study all of it line-by-line.
  • Due to the highly dynamic and evolving field of software and automation, an aptitude to acquire new technical knowledge organically is essential within a team culture of lifelong learning and self-improvement.
What You Need:
  • An engineering or science degree with an emphasis in software development in the fields of embedded control, automation, digital signal processing, or desktop applications, with 6 to 12 years of relevant work experience.
  • Programming experience on a range of architectures, including embedded/SBC, desktop applications, and industrial PLC and fieldbus I/O systems.
  • Language experience shall include ladder logic, structured text, C/C++, C#, various scripting, and others. Familiarity or experience with WinForms, WPF, T-SQL, XML, LINQ, PowerShell desirable.
  • Application experience shall include process automation, advanced instrumentation, motion control, and Windows-based HMI.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, as stated above.
  • Motion control/servo systems including PID control.
  • Fluent with electrical switching, logic circuits, and electrical schematics, including the ability to understand and trouble-shoot using a DMM.
  • The ability to apply the scientific method to discover cause/effect relationships.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Organized, methodical, and diligent.
  • Rigorous attention to detail, and compliance with company and departmental procedures and standards.
  • Basic Microsoft Windows desktop deployment, administration, and trouble-shooting on both x86 and x64 architectures.
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office suite and G Suite.
