Responsible for activities related to estimating all elements of project cost including labor (manual and non-manual), materials and permanent equipment, supplies, consumables and expenses, construction equipment rental and operating costs, contingency, escalation, program risk, etc. cost breakdown estimating and negotiating, and technical writing.
You'll be responsible for:
- Serves as technical advisor for team.
- Engages with local team on interchange, highway, and urban corridor projects.
- Provides specialized technical input to design, calculations, and studies for staff's specific area of expertise.
- Develops design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others.
- Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
- Develops construction cost estimates and fee estimates of technical efforts for projects.
- Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package.
- Performs and leads quality control review of design calculations and drawings.
- Prepares technical construction specification sections.
- Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
- Initiates and creates project designs and drawings/plans for transportation and/or civil design projects.
- Performs detailed design including preparation of complete calculation packages and development of details.
- Guides drafting team for preparation of drawings from early stages of the design to the final contract plans.
- Understands the importance of review and quality control and able to perform review of design calculations and drawings and specifications.
- Prepares and contributes in the development and implementation of technical approach in projects in collaboration with the project manager.
You'll need to have:
- BA/BS plus relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Professional engineer (PE).
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering plus related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Experience with design software including MicroStation and OpenRoads.
- Familiar with MS Office software (Excel, Word, Project).
- Experience designing highway/roadway systems.
- Previous design experience on transportation projects including Development and Preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E)
- Minimum OSHA 30 training required
You'll also have:
- New York/New Jersey specific experience.
- Demonstrated experience in heavy civil construction projects.
- Experience in estimating mass excavation and transit related construction projects.
- Experience in constructability reviews of heavy civil and transit projects.
- Demonstrated experience with commercialized estimating programs.
- Evidence of good potential growth shown by satisfactory performance in past positions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Potential to perform in a lead capacity.
