Product Development Engineer - North America

The Product Development Engineer is responsible for the management and closing of R&D projects and conception through to product launch. The focus of this function is on the development of new products (formulation and processes) for new films and coatings and support the of the Business Teams.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for running, closing and following-up R&D projects.
  • Development of new products (formulation and processes) for new films and coatings.
  • Technology search, selection, and analysis.
  • Preparation of test plans and coordination with analytical laboratories.
  • Responsible for the trial and sample reel budget for own projects and customers.
  • Definition of specification and control limits for products under development.
  • Identify clear targets and costs for development projects.
  • Meet project plans, create regular project updates and monthly reports.
  • Involvement and alignment with Business teams Flexible Packaging and Labels to ensure project prioritization and budgeting.
  • The role requires close links with Business Teams, Sales, Marketing, Customers, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, Technical Service, TI plants and Group R&D.
  • Assist the process technology team in product and process optimization.
  • Support the innovation opportunities through the preparation of innovation presentations, workshops, and meetings with customers and elsewhere to capture new sales opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree required, Ph.D. degree preferred, in Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Science, or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in film manufacturing or flexible packaging industry.
  • Technical knowledge of raw materials, packaging materials and converting processes as well as on the packaging machines.
  • Ability to interact with internal operations, sales, and business managers.
  • Ability to interact with customers and end users.
  • Project Management experience and proven project leadership role.
  • Demonstrated capability to work with administrative data systems and usual IT tools.
  • Project management skills and experience.
  • R&D stage-gate process management.
  • Ability to build internal and external relationships.
  • Willingness to work in a team and good interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive and able to communicate with senior management.
  • Accountability for project timelines.
  • English native speaker or fluent in English.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
