The Nursing Director position oversees and leads operations of more than one patient care area at Fairview Southdale Hospital. This leader contributes to and executes the vision for promoting clinical excellence and program growth in a highly competitive marketplace. In collaboration with other leaders, ensures that high quality services are provided within professional regulatory and accrediting body standards, and that overall clinical performance of the service line meets or exceeds national best practice benchmarks. Ensures operations function at top levels of efficiency, and exceeds customer expectations. Accountable for viable financial performance of the departments that position has accountability for. Partners with leaders across the continuum of care to achieve organization outcomes. Develops and administers policies and procedures, operating and capital budgets. Responsible to assist the VP of Patient Care Services with planning and management of initiatives and tasks which advance nursing strategic and operational work. May be assigned single or multiple projects having high impact across the system.

Possess knowledge of related regulatory agencies and ability to sustain constant readiness of regulatory requirements. Ensures quality of care in accordance with team based and patient/family centered care.

This role is responsible for:

Oversees operations for multiple areas to ensure all staff and physicians have a safe, efficient, and highly effective environment that promotes outstanding clinical care, and leads the nation in clinical, safety and patient experience outcomes.
Collaborates with medical staff leaders in determining needed patient care services.

Oversees supervision and mentorship of direct care staff, nurse managers, and other clinical leaders engaged in activities for which the Director is responsible, including recruitment retention and performance evaluation.
Identifies future skill sets needed to remain competitive.
Develop recruitment and retention strategies in conjunction with Human Resources.

Actively collaborates with other nursing, medical dyad and interdisciplinary leaders to drive department performance.
Represents services areas on entity and organizational wide committees as requested.

Manages department finances and mentors staff to meet or exceed budgeted levels of performance. Actively seek out industry "best standard" benchmarks and apply them to operations.
Ensures preparation of and management of operations and capital targets to achieve expected performance.
Completes strategic planning, budget preparation and ongoing budget analysis.

Fosters an environment that promotes best practice employee engagement levels.
Interprets and evaluates employee satisfaction/quality of work surveys.
Creates opportunities for employees to be involved in decision-making.
Rewards and recognizes exemplary performance.
Formulates programs to enhance work-life balance in conjunction with Human Resources.

Advances exceptional patient experience and core concepts of patient and family centered care to achieve targeted performance levels.

Integrates quality improvement and outcome measurement initiatives into patient care delivery systems.
Responsible to partner with the other Directors and Managers for ongoing Patient Care Services process improvement.
Monitors patient care units for quality.
Develops implements and approves patient care services specific procedures.

Advances evidence based practice regarding patient care as well as for management/leadership decision making.
Advocates for use of documented best practices.
Teaches and mentors others to routinely utilizes evidence based data and research.

Assures compliance with internal and external regulations, policies and procedures for areas of responsibility.
Apply government and non-government reimbursement policy to operations to ensure reimbursement for services is appropriate.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Minimum Education
Master's degree in nursing, health care administration, business administration or related field or DNP. If advanced degree is not in nursing, a BSN is also required.

Minimum License/Certification/Registration
Current RN Licensure in MN or have ability to obtain prior to start date.

Minimum Experience
3-5 years patient care experience in an acute care setting.
3-5 years recent experience in management and leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Experience
3-10 years' experience managing a large, complex nursing department(s) in a hospital based setting.
Academic experience
