The agency serves low-income families and individuals in the County of San Diego in two (2) strategic areas with a high density population of Filipinos/Asian and other low-income, uninsured individuals - National City (Southern San Diego County) and Mira Mesa (North Central San Diego).
JOB PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Medical Director, performs direct patient care services. Performs selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Services:
Performs direct patient care services under the supervision of Supervising Physician and other primary care physicians for diagnoses listed in protocol book.
Performs selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks in clinic under the responsibility and supervision of physicians.
Takes complete and accurate and detailed medical histories; performs complete physical examinations.
Performs and/or assists in the following routine laboratory and screening techniques: (a) drawing of venous blood; (b) catheterization as needed; (c) taking of cultures (throat, GC, etc.); (d) pelvic examinations and pap smears.
Performs the following routine therapeutic procedures: (a) debridement, suture and care of superficial wounds; (b) debridement of minor superficial burns; (c) removal of foreign bodies from the skin; (d) removal of sutures; (e) taping and splinting of sprains; (f) incision and draining of superficial skin infections.
Evaluations:
Evaluate situations calling for physician's immediate attention; treatment procedures essential for the life of the patient.
Scan charts to see/order needed immunizations.
Quality Management:
Contribute to the success of the organization by participating in quality improvement activities.
Customer Relations:
Make referrals to outside physicians and hospitals.
Maintain professional working relationships with all levels of staff, clients and the public.
Be a team player and cooperate in accomplishing department goals and objectives.
Safety:
Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices.
Follow all safety procedures and report unsafe conditions.
Know location of nearest fire extinguisher and emergency exits.
Follow all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogen protocols.
HIPAA/Compliance:
Maintain privacy of all patient, employee and volunteer information and access such information only on a need to know basis for business purposes.
Comply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations. Report unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful behavior or activity.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have a high level of organizational skills.
Highly effective oral and written communication skills.
Relate to and work with people of all ages, social and ethnic backgrounds and maintain patient confidentiality.
Work independently and as a part of a team and to inspire confidence and trust in patients and staff.
Understand the patient needs as consumers of health care and focus service around those needs.
Complete many different duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
Work under stress when confronted with critical or unusual situations.
Follow instructions explicitly.

Education and Experience:
Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner or physician assistant program.
Minimum two years of experience in full scope nurse practitioner/physician assistant preferred.
Annual Requirements, Licensure, and Certifications:
License to practice in CA
Current CPR Certification
Have reliable transportation; clean driving record, and car insurance as required by the state.
