Description

Summary:

Assists the supervising physician in the management of patients and performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under the physician's supervision.

Duties:
  • Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations. Document findings, noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings.
  • Assess patient for change in status and institute appropriate interventions. Initiate necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient.
  • Provide ongoing outpatient care of assigned patients as well as episodic patients;
  • Prescribe medications within defined scope of practice (including schedule 11-V controlled substances) and write orders and prescriptions as necessary for the care of the patient in accordance with Federal and State Law.
  • Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, and x-rays;
  • Carry out health promotion and disease prevention activities;
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and families for preventative care, medical conditions and use of prescribed treatment and drugs;
  • Administration of topical anesthesia
  • Provide preoperative consultations
  • Writes progress notes and narrative discharge summaries.
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist the physician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems.
  • Prescribes treatments and services for quality patient care; records the normal and abnormal data for review by the physicians.
  • Explains the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  • Monitors progress of patients, reports progress to supervising physician and maintains record of each patient's progress.
  • Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.

    Requirements

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1-2 years of Orthopaedic experience preferred
  • Graduated from an accredited Physician Assistant educational program
  • Certification from American Academy of Physician Assistants
  • North Carolina Physician Assistant license required
  • Knowledge of medical guidelines and procedures regarding examination, therapy and recovery
  • Familiarity with advancements in medical technology and current know-how
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Health promotion and maintenance
  • The ability to treat patients with compassion and empathy
