Primary Purpose:
Provide psychological evaluations to students who are referred for special education services suspected of having emotional/behavioral difficulties. Adhere to state and local guidelines in order to consider eligibility and to plan appropriate school programs in general and special education. Consult with various school personnel regarding possible referrals. Attend Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings. Consult with the ARD committee members to develop appropriate Individual Education Plans (IEP) and Behavior Resource Specialists to develop appropriate Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Minimum of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
Licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology
Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology
OR
Master's Degree and eligible to practice as a School Psychology Trainee. Continued employment beyond the trainee year will depend on the successful completion of the traineeship, as well as taking and passing the jurisprudence examination

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of procedures for assessing achievement and intellectual, emotional, and behavioral
functioning for educational purposes
Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management
interventions
Knowledge of psycho-social development
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Assessment
  • Conduct Full and Individual Evaluations to identify areas of special education eligibility.
  • Assist the Behavior Resource Specialist in finalizing the Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) for students who are eligible with an emotional disturbance and/or Other Health Impairment.
  • Select, administer, and interpret assessments and observations to evaluate the intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of referred students. Determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and state regulations.
  • Develop psychological and psych educational evaluation reports.
  • Conduct or participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.
  • May serve as case manager and implement the special education assessment process for students on assigned campuses.
  • Consultation
  • Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of students and the interpretation of assessment data
  • Meet with parents to discuss pertinent background information and test results.
  • Consult with psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and community agencies concerning intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students as needed.
  • Attend ARD's for children identified with or suspected of having an emotional disturbance and/or an attention/deficit-hyperactivity disorder.
  • Provide consultative assistance to members of the support staff, and special education supervisors.
  • Program Management
  • Maintain accurate records of students who are assessed for emotional problems.
  • Attend Special Education support staff meetings and other meetings as scheduled.
  • Interpret the philosophy and rationale of the Special Education Department within the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD to the school and community.
  • Seek ways to increase professional growth and development.
  • Keep up with current research in the relevant areas concerning emotional and behavioral functioning..
  • Keep up with the requirements of the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists for licensure as an L.S.S.P.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of psychological services and assessment procedures and make changes based on findings.
  • Participate in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including case records, test results, statistical data, and test inventories.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy. Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
  • May provide clinical supervision to intern or trainee, if supervision requirements have been met

    Mental Demands: Must be able to maintain a high level of concentration and control emotional stress
    in current work environment. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret and
    implement policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions; maintain emotional control
    under stress. Occasional district-wide and state-wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular
    hours. Work with frequent interruptions
