Description:

NorthWind is currently seeking an Intermediate to Senior Biophysical Specialist/Terrestrial Ecologist who will play an active role in the office management, field execution, technical reporting and review for NorthWind's biophysical projects. The successful candidate will have a multidisciplinary skillset which includes a strong understanding of vegetation and ecology, wetland science, soils, and land reclamation, coupled with strong writing and review skills. The candidate will have specific technical experience with field data collection and reporting on pre-disturbance assessments, as well as post-construction reclamation monitoring. In addition to supporting existing projects, the ideal candidate will play an active role in growing and expanding the Biophysical area, while contributing to the success of NorthWind's wellsite reclamation programs along with training and mentoring junior staff in their area(s) of expertise.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and manage field programs and oversee field work execution.
  • Work alongside NorthWind consultants, subcontractors and client representatives on a wide range of projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff.
  • Support the growth of the biophysical group by developing relationships with existing and future clients.
  • Prepare, edit and review technical proposals and reports.
  • Assist with the development of policies and procedures related to designated work scopes in support of NorthWind operations.

Qualifications:
  • Relevant post-secondary degree from a recognized university or college directly related to Environmental Sciences, Land Reclamation, and/or Vegetation and Wetland Ecology.
  • Professional designation within the Province of Alberta, preferably an Agrologist (P.Ag.) or Biologist (P.Biol) with seven or more years of related consulting experience.
  • Direct experience with:
    • Environmental Impact Assessment
    • Conservation and Reclamation Planning
    • Post-Construction (Reclamation) Monitoring on NEB/CER Regulated Pipelines
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects and personnel.
  • Experience in the identification of common and rare plant species in Alberta's natural subregions (boreal, foothills, parkland, grassland).
  • Knowledge and experience with wetland classification and mapping.
  • Strong understanding of reclamation practices and requirements, with experience supervising and monitoring active land reclamation projects in Alberta considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License with clean drivers abstract, and ability to work weekends when necessary to meet project demands.
  • Operational knowledge of GIS and mapping is considered a strong asset.
  • Affinity for client liaison and business development.
