Summary

The Program Director is responsible for assuring all program mandates and standards are met. This position develops the structure, systems and procedures to facilitate best practices, and program outcomes. In addition to operating responsibility for fiscal and programmatic aspects of the program, it bears the responsibility of assuring that the program is strategically positioned for the future. At the discretion of the Director, some responsibilities may be delegated to other staff.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides guidance and leadership to staff to emphasize the importance of the program achieving high standards of quality, internally and through public and private sector partnerships.
  • Works with other organizations in the community to foster collaboration.
  • In conjunction with the Board of Directors, staff and Parent committees, leads planning meetings in which long and short-term goals for improvement are established.
  • In conjunction with the Development department helps with the monitoring and report of any additional funding.
  • Facilitates professional development of all staff as part of the commitment to excellence by providing and/or secures training and technical assistance for all staff.


  • Assures remediation of any non-compliances found in delegate or grantee assessment and incorporates recommendations into planning for the improvement of the program.
  • Maintains a close working relationship with the Fiscal Department which provides the Director with information for budget writing and the status of the budget to facilitate effective oversight of expenditures.
  • Hires, and if necessary, terminates staff, complying with applicable laws, regulations, Agency Personnel Policies and Procedure, and Collective Bargaining Agreements.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manages the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Program/Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with agency policies and applicable laws. Solid comprehension of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) where applicable. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, directing work, rewarding, disciplining employees, performance reviews, and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications Required:

  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with NYS certification in Early Childhood.
  • 5 years' experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.


  • Ability to plan and carry out assignments independently.
  • Ability to prioritize, adhere to timelines and multi-task
